It's a spy thriller stuffed inside a royal Christmas romance, and the genre whiplash is the whole joy. Mary Poppins crossed with a Bond mission. Breezy and fun.

The wild specifics are the receipts here: the Spirit of Christmas Past is a country singer who time-travels via guitar, the Spirit of Christmas Future is skipped entirely because the future is a song yet to be written, and there is a cat named Emmylou Hairless. A Dickens riff that fully embraces Music City.

The plot: a newly single tech executive buys a run-down Maine cottage and begins exchanging letters with a woman who lives in the same house, except she lives there in 1960. Rob Estes plays the modern resident, Sarah Manninen the woman across time. As their cross-decade bond deepens through a crevice in the wall, he realizes she is in real danger from both an undiagnosed illness and a dangerous husband. A time-spanning rescue told with a straighter, darker face than the genre usually wears.

Weirdness 9, and the lowest-rated swing on the list. The plot, no exaggeration: a British marquis is mugged in San Francisco and left with amnesia, and an eleven-year-old girl who can't bear to dissect a frog in class becomes convinced her kiss turned a frog into a grown man. Kellie Martin plays the widowed mother, Simon Kassianides the supposed prince. The girl persuades her mom to hire the muddy stranger as a live-in nanny. A Frog Prince retelling, complete with a storybook framing device, that has to be seen to be believed.

Weirdness 9. The premise: a former orchestra conductor takes a teaching job at a remote Irish boarding school, moves into a late composer's old house, and discovers his ghost still living there, insisting he did not kill his wife. Tamera Mowry-Housley plays the sleuth, who can hear the ghost only through herself and a piano. She juggles the choir, a budding romance with a local teacher, and a five-year-old cold case.
