Why we’d put this one on

Weirdness 9, and one of the most gleefully ridiculous swings in the batch. Rachel Skarsten plays Claire, an intelligence agent who goes undercover as a royal nanny at the palace after a security threat to the family, all while resisting the charms of Prince Colin, played by Dan Jeannotte. So it is a spy thriller wearing a Hallmark Christmas sweater. The committed silliness is the joy: Claire wields a specialized "nanny umbrella" as a combat shield, attends a 24-hour "nanny boot camp" with tactical training, and the head of intelligence is basically a Hallmark villain protecting his budget. Greta Scacchi co-stars. Bonkers, action-flavored holiday fun.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with MI7 agent Claire Champion successfully intercepting a courier, leading to the discovery of a microdot containing sensitive security schematics for Kensington Palace. Because the breach appears to be internal, DG Taylor of MI7 orders Claire to go undercover as the new royal nanny to protect Princess Rose’s children, Robert and Elle, and identify the source of the leak. Claire, who grew up in a children's home and feels ill-equipped for domestic life, undergoes a grueling 24-hour 'nanny boot camp' with the legendary Juliet Lansbury, known as 'Scary Poppins.' Lansbury teaches Claire that a nanny’s umbrella is not just for rain, but a tactical shield and distraction tool. Upon arriving at the palace, Claire is met with skepticism from the children, who attempt to drive her away with elaborate pranks like the 'bucket on the door' trick. However, Claire’s combat reflexes allow her to foil their plans, earning their begrudging respect. She also clashes with Prince Colin, the children's uncle, who is protective of their privacy. As Claire balances her security duties with her nanny persona, she begins to bond with the family, helping Princess Rose manage her royal duties and arranging a secret video call with the children's father, Prince Edward, who is deployed overseas. Her relationship with Prince Colin softens as they work together on his Christmas charity, where Claire uses her background as an orphan to convince a wealthy donor to fund gifts for thousands of children. The investigation takes a dark turn when Claire realizes the threat isn't just external; her own boss, DG Taylor, is manipulating events to manufacture a crisis that will justify MI7's funding. During a charity event, the conspirators—including the palace's own security officer Price—kidnap Prince Colin after a failed attempt to take the children. Claire is initially removed from the case by Taylor, who tries to frame Colin for the breach. Refusing to back down, Claire teams up with her partner Wallace and Ms. Lansbury to track Colin to a remote warehouse. In the climax, Claire uses her 'nanny' skills and tactical umbrella to take down the rogue agents and rescue the Prince. The film concludes with the arrest of DG Taylor, the safe return of Prince Edward for Christmas, and Claire being invited by the King himself to spend the holidays with the Royal Family at Sandringham, finally finding the family she never had.
