Why we’d put this one on

Weirdness 10, and a sneaky-good time-travel romance. Lyndsy Fonseca is Angie, a lonely neurosurgeon who boards her usual commuter train and gets dropped off in her hometown in 2011, courtesy of a ticket agent who is basically a Christmas wizard. From there it is full Back to the Future logic, right down to her trying to prevent her parents' divorce and proving she is from the future by predicting a choking incident. She has to choose between a famous ex and her childhood best friend (Chandler Massey). At a strong 7.0, it is bold, big-hearted, and a lot of fun.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens in 2021 with Dr. Angie Reynolds, a dedicated neurosurgeon in Yonkers who is planning to spend Christmas alone due to work commitments and the pain of her parents' divorce. After a chance encounter with her childhood friend Ben Lee—who has abandoned his dream of family law for corporate law—Angie meets a mysterious ticket agent at Grand Central who gives her a special 'round-trip' ticket. Upon boarding the 10:15 train, she wakes up in 2011, a pivotal year when she was still in medical school and dating Tyler Grant, now a famous sports commentator but then just a local reporter. Angie realizes she has been given a chance to relive the week leading up to the Christmas where she originally rejected Tyler's proposal and her family began to drift apart. Confused but intrigued, Angie enlists the 2011 version of Ben to help her navigate the past, eventually confessing to him that she is from the future. Ben is skeptical but becomes a believer after Angie correctly predicts he will choke on a gumdrop. Angie's initial goal is to 'fix' her life by saying yes to Tyler's impending proposal, believing this is the key to her happiness. However, as she spends time with her family, she notices the subtle cracks in her parents' marriage and her sister Kristen's secret struggle with infertility. She uses her future knowledge to encourage Kristen and attempts to rekindle her parents' romance by recreating the night they first met at Aunt Myrt's annual Christmas party. As the week progresses, Angie realizes that Tyler is more focused on his burgeoning career than their relationship, evidenced by his plan to whisk her away to Barcelona for a soccer match immediately after proposing. Meanwhile, her bond with Ben deepens, and she realizes he has always been her true support system. At Aunt Myrt's party, Angie sees her parents dancing and realizes she has successfully helped them reconnect. When Tyler finally proposes, Angie realizes they aren't a match and rejects him again, but this time with clarity. She discovers a hidden note from Ben in an old 'Frosty' jewelry box expressing his lifelong love for her. Realizing Ben is 'the one,' she rushes to the train station as the magical conductor signals the return trip. She tells Ben she loves him and promises to meet him in ten years at a specific inn. Angie wakes up back in 2021 to find a transformed reality: her parents are still happily married, her sister has a daughter thanks to Ben's legal help, and Ben is waiting for her at the inn, where he reveals they have been a couple for years and finally proposes.
