    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist literally sculpts her own boyfriend out of clay.
    • The use of a Jewish Golem legend as a rom-com plot device.
    • The 'perfect man' has a stage name for modeling called 'Clay Goldfisher'.
    • The resolution involves 're-programming' a magical construct so he can go to culinary school instead of turning back into mud.

    Full story (spoilers)
Rachel Becker is a New York City sculpture instructor who is perpetually disappointed by the dating scene and her mother Judith's aggressive matchmaking. Frustrated by the lack of 'perfect' men, Rachel spends her time working on a hyper-realistic, life-sized sculpture of her ideal partner. One night, during a storm, her neighbor Doris brings over an ancient Jewish amulet that, according to folklore, can bring a Golem to life. They place the amulet on the sculpture as a joke, but the next morning, the sculpture has transformed into a living, breathing man named Clay. Clay is exactly what Rachel designed: kind, handsome, a great cook, and completely devoted to her. He even knows her specific coffee order and thinks her 'snort' is like 'beautiful thunder.' Rachel introduces Clay to her family at her sister Ruth's wedding, where he is an immediate hit, especially with her parents, who are impressed by his (fabricated) interest in law school. However, Rachel also meets David, a friend of the groom and a struggling stand-up comedian who recently quit his law career. Unlike Clay, David is blunt, sarcastic, and frequently disagrees with Rachel. Despite their friction, David encourages Rachel to stop hiding her talent and submit her work to a prestigious art showcase. As Rachel spends more time with both men, the contrast becomes clear: Clay is a mirror who agrees with everything she says, while David is a real person who challenges her and makes her laugh. Subplots involve Rachel's sister Ruth, who is also a perfectionist, and David's nephew Parker, who is trying to find his own path in music. The tension peaks when Clay, pressured by Rachel's mother, prepares to propose at Rachel's big art showcase. At the event, Rachel wins the top prize for a sculpture that represents her own growth. Clay gets down on one knee, but David interrupts to confess his love, arguing that while he isn't perfect, he will grow with her and push her to be her best. Rachel realizes that Clay's perfection is actually a limitation. She breaks up with Clay but, to prevent him from turning back into a lump of clay, she gives him a 'new purpose' to follow his own passion for cooking. The film ends with Clay heading to culinary school and Rachel and David sharing a very real, imperfect first kiss.
