A WWII-era nurse (Candace Cameron Bure) gets swept from 1945 to 2016 by a rare Christmas comet, then has to make sense of a world that includes gluten-free toothpaste and a kind cop named Jake. The premise is treated with a totally straight face, which is what makes it work, and a 70-year-old letter does some quietly mind-bending things to the timeline. Tom Skerritt co-stars. Rated 7. A comet as a time machine, played for keeps.

Noelle (Candace Cameron Bure) gets locked in a department store overnight and meets Charlie, a guardian-angel-in-training who freely admits she's bad at her job and uses magical footwear to fling Noelle through her past, present, and possible futures. Jean Smart and Luke Macfarlane co-star. Weirdness 10. It's A Christmas Carol restaged in a shoe department, and it commits to the bit without a flicker of doubt. Rated 6.5.

   Angie (Lyndsy Fonseca) just wants to spend Christmas alone, but her usual commuter train turns into a magic train and drops her in her hometown in 2011. The ticket agent is essentially a Christmas wizard, and the Back-to-the-Future logic runs deep, right down to her trying to fix her parents' marriage. Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson are in it, which can only be a wink. Weirdness 10, rated 7. A neurosurgeon, a regret-haunted commuter rail, full send.

   Just in Time for Christmas

   A psychology professor (Eloise Mumford) takes a horse-drawn carriage ride, the horse is named Mistletoe, and gets flung three years into the future to see what choosing the dream job over the proposal actually costs. The Northern Lights turn up in a suburban park as a portal. Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner are both here. Weirdness 10. The nerve of using a sleigh-adjacent carriage as a time machine, with a self-help-book empire as the cautionary tale, is the whole appeal. Rated 6.4.

   It's Christmas, Carol!

   A ruthless publishing exec nicknamed "Stalin in Stilettos" (Emmanuelle Vaugier) gets the full Scrooge treatment on Christmas Eve, complete with the ghost of her dead boss appearing in a restroom stall and an office staff plotting an actual revolution. Carrie Fisher co-stars. Weirdness 10. It's part ghost story, part time-hop through past, present, and future, and the small touches, the "Board of Correctors," the employees chanting, are what push it over the top. Rated 5.8, but the swing is enormous.

   An organic farmer (Torrey DeVitto) finds a man in her barn claiming to be from 1789, and the kicker is he's the literal son of Rip Van Winkle. To prove his story, a musket ball gets surgically pulled from his leg. A romance that reaches for quantum physics and "Bikini Atoll uranium particles" to explain a time tear has my full attention. Niall Matter co-stars. Weirdness 9. Rip eats raw turnips and calls Sarah "mannish" for wearing pants. Gloriously committed. Rated 6.7.

   Edge of the Garden

   A newly single tech exec (Rob Estes) buys an abandoned Maine cottage and starts trading letters with a woman who lives there, in 1960, through a crevice in the wall. The wild part is the cross-time medical mystery: he works out across fifty years that she has undiagnosed Lyme disease. Weirdness 9, and it goes to genuinely dark places involving her abusive husband. A locket bridges the decades. Rated 7. This is the most somber, gothic entry on the list, and one of the most striking.

   The Magic of Lemon Drops

   Aunt Gert hands Lolly (Lyndsy Fonseca) four magical lemon drops, each one a doorway into an alternate version of her life. It's multiverse hopping powered by hard candy, with a "fourth drop" rule that works like a permanent save state in a video game. Ian Harding co-stars. Weirdness 9. The candy comes from a carnival psychic named Esmerelda, and Aunt Gert reportedly gets "ASMR tingles" off the magic. No rating yet, but the premise alone books its seat.

   A Biltmore Christmas

   A screenwriter (Bethany Joy Lenz) is sent to the Biltmore Estate to research a remake of a 1947 classic, knocks over an hourglass, and lands on the original 1940s film set. So it's a movie inside a movie inside a time-travel romance, with Kristoffer Polaha and a cameo from Jonathan Frakes. Weirdness 9. The era-hopping and the meta layers make it one of the more ambitious swings here, and there's a running gag about being mistaken for an actress named Sandra Bullock. No IMDb rating logged yet.

    Don't trust the breezy title. The story here actually follows a man who time-travels involuntarily, lands in a psychiatric hospital, and meets a fellow traveler who erased his own marriage from the timeline to save the woman he loved. Weirdness 7. Quantum physics lectures crash into a romantic drama, and the protagonist arrives with no pants. Kristy Swanson and Scott Grimes are credited. Rated 5.2, the lowest here, which only makes it more of a curio. A strange, melancholy oddball.
