Weirdness 8, and a wonderfully over-engineered piece of Christmas mythology. When the world starts losing its holiday spirit, Santa's high-tech city of Northpole faces an energy crisis, and a spunky elf named Clementine (Bailee Madison) recruits a lonely kid to help. Tiffani Thiessen plays his skeptical reporter mom. The world-building is the joy: Northpole has Guilds for Yummy and Bouncing, the Northern Lights are literally a power grid fueled by human emotion, and there is a 130-year-old elf child treating a tree-lighting like a national infrastructure project. It is earnest, busy, and bizarre in a way I find charming. A great family pick with a lot going on.
