Neill Fearnley

Neill Fearnley sits behind the camera, not in front of it. Across 19 films from 2008 through 2020 he never takes a lead, working instead as a director and producer who gives a project a steady frame. His comfort zone is the small town, the setting for eight of those titles, and he keeps the holiday hook lighter than you might expect, with only three Christmas films in the bunch. The work lands at a solid 6.7 on average, but two pictures climb well above that and tie for his best: New Year's Wish from 2015 and The Christmas Wishing Tree from 2017, both at 8.4. He does not lean on one cast either, rotating faces rather than building a regular troupe. If a movie from this stretch felt quietly well made, there is a good chance he was the one steering it.
