    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist's dog, Rip, is explicitly stated to be 'jealous' of her relationship with Jack.
    • A subplot involves a recipe for 'rattlesnake-and-liver pie' being submitted to a time capsule.
    • The high-stakes Mountie shootout involving counterfeiting plates feels tonally dissonant from the 'art contest' and 'marching band' subplots.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Elizabeth Thatcher reflecting on her journey to Hope Valley and her love for Jack Thornton, though their relationship is strained after Jack witnesses a proposal from Elizabeth's wealthy friend, Charles. Jack struggles with feelings of inadequacy, believing Charles offers a world Elizabeth is more suited for. Amidst this romantic tension, Rosemary LeVeaux wins a contest for the San Francisco Herald to feature Hope Valley's New Year's Eve celebration. To ensure the story is a success, she lies to reporter Mike Ward, claiming she and Lee Coulter are a married 'frontier family,' forcing a reluctant Lee to play along with increasingly absurd excuses, such as being 'allergic to gold' to explain his lack of a wedding ring. In a parallel subplot, Abigail Stanton discovers a young boy named Cody stealing food. She follows him to find his sister, Becky, who is dangerously ill with a fever in the woods. Abigail brings them into her home, promising to protect them from being sent back to an orphanage. Meanwhile, the town's law enforcement faces a crisis when Inspector Houston arrives to take Bill Avery to trial for counterfeiting. Jack remains suspicious of the circumstances and eventually discovers that Houston is the corrupt party. In a tense standoff at a mine, Jack saves Bill from being executed by Houston, who intended to frame Bill for a 'failed escape.' Elizabeth focuses her energy on her students, particularly Laura Campbell, whose father has banned joy and creativity in their home since the death of Laura's mother. Elizabeth encourages Laura to enter an art contest, eventually reaching through to Mr. Campbell about the importance of allowing his daughter to have a childhood. Simultaneously, Pastor Frank Hogan is confronted by Jesse, a young man from his past who knows him as 'Matt Landry,' a legendary outlaw. Frank tries to convince Jesse to turn over a new leaf, but Jesse remains a looming threat. As New Year's Eve arrives, the various threads converge. Rosemary confesses her deception to the reporter, who surprisingly decides that the town's genuine sense of community is a better story than a fake marriage. Becky’s fever breaks thanks to the doctor's quinine treatment, and Abigail agrees to become the children's guardian. The town gathers for a fireworks display and the sealing of a 100-year memory box. Elizabeth and Jack finally reconcile, acknowledging their commitment to each other, and share a kiss as the clock strikes midnight, signaling a fresh start for the entire community.
