    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Steve Winters, a successful tech entrepreneur, being harassed by territorial surfers at a 'locals only' beach. Shortly after, Steve visits Jennifer Shannon's antique shop and makes a generous $3,000 donation to a charity fundraiser after purchasing a vintage surfboard. The story takes a dark turn when Steve is found dead, apparently drowned while surfing at an isolated beach. His wife, Anne, is devastated and immediately suspicious, as Steve was a champion swimmer and lifeguard. Jennifer begins her own investigation after noticing that Steve's body was found north of his car despite the ocean currents moving south that day, and that he was wearing a thin summer wetsuit in freezing winter water. Jennifer's investigation branches into several directions: she looks into Jesse Fuller, a violent local surfer with a history of assault; Todd Winters, Steve's alcoholic brother who was recently fired from their company, Idea Dome; and Mitch Harris, Steve's business partner who stands to gain millions if the company is sold—a move Steve vehemently opposed. Meanwhile, a subplot involves Jennifer's son, Logan, who auditions for a modern production of 'Romeo and Juliet' to impress a girl, leading to lighthearted scenes of Jennifer and her husband Jason helping him rehearse. As the mystery intensifies, Mitch is 'attacked' at his home by a masked intruder, which Jennifer later realizes was a staged event to divert suspicion. The police arrest Jesse Fuller based on a witness statement from another surfer, but Jennifer remains unconvinced. She discovers that Steve regularly used a 'float spa' sensory deprivation tank for meditation. The breakthrough occurs when Jennifer learns that the water in Steve's lungs contained Epsom salts—found in float tanks—rather than sea salt. She also finds a hidden document Steve wrote giving his brother Todd voting authority to prevent the company's sale. In the climax, Jennifer and Anne are confronted by Mitch at Anne's house. Mitch reveals he killed Steve by locking him in the float tank and then staged the ocean drowning. He also admits to killing Todd by forcing him to drink and then suffocating him to prevent him from finding Steve's hidden instructions. Jennifer manages to stall Mitch by explaining exactly how she solved the crime until Jason and the police, alerted by Jennifer's suspicious behavior, arrive to arrest him. The film concludes with Logan's successful (if nervous) performance in the school play and the Shannon family celebrating another closed case.
