Why we’d put this one on

Catherine Bell returns as Cassie while Middleton panics over the 150-year-old Perriwood Prophecy, which seems to be coming true through bat swarms and mysterious store closures. Weirdness 8, and the local color is pure Good Witch: a prophecy hidden inside gargoyle statues, a town assistant faking a plague of frogs to lure tourists, and zombie flesh sliders that are just pulled pork. At 7.4 it is another comfortable, well-liked Halloween entry. James Denton's Dr. Sam and Bailee Madison's Grace are along for it. If you want autumn-flavored small-town magic with a curse that probably isn't really a curse, settle in.

    How it all plays out

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Middleton preparing for its annual Halloween festivities, overshadowed by the legend of Cotton Perriwood, a man banished from the town 150 years prior. Strange occurrences—bats, frogs, and the sudden closure of a local shop—lead Mayor Martha Tinsdale to believe the 'Perriwood Prophecy' is unfolding. Amidst this, Cassie Nightingale welcomes the Stantons to Grey House, only for Mr. Stanton to suffer a heart episode. Sam Radford, the local doctor and Cassie's fiancé, treats him, while the Stantons' 50-year marriage serves as a thematic backdrop for the town's romantic dynamics. Meanwhile, a fierce decorating competition breaks out between Abigail and Stephanie; Abigail goes so far as to report a local supplier to the city to sabotage Stephanie's chances. As the 'winds of change' predicted in the prophecy begin to blow, a travel writer named Wil Fuller arrives to document the town's 'curse.' The tension peaks when Martha's assistant, Jared, confesses that he faked the frogs and bats to boost tourism, but he cannot explain the subsequent power outages and high winds. Martha becomes convinced that Cassie and Sam must hold hands at midnight to break the curse. However, Grace, Cassie's daughter, discovers that the missing final page of the prophecy was actually hidden in pieces inside the bases of several gargoyle statues scattered around town. When the pieces are assembled, the prophecy reveals a message of unity: 'the people shall come together as never before.' The 'curse' is revealed to be a lesson in forgiveness from Cotton Perriwood. The town reconciles, the decorating contest ends in a collective victory for all local businesses, and the Stantons celebrate their recovery, leaving Cassie and Sam to reflect on their own future as a soon-to-be-married couple.
