About the series
Samantha Kinsey inherits a bookshop devoted to mysteries, then begins investigating the deaths around her. Kellie Martin leads this eleven-film run, with the shop providing a meeting place and a reason for strangers to arrive. Start here if you like a sleuth whose curiosity reaches beyond her day job. The later cases also make room for Samantha's own family and the past of her secretive ally Philby.
What to expect
The bookshop is the home base, with excursions to a spa and a travelling Western show. Samantha has to decide whom to trust when customers, friends and people seeking help bring trouble to her door. The appeal is watching an amateur persist when an apparent explanation does not satisfy her.

Inside the series
A bookshop that brings cases to the sleuth
Author appearances, customers and a concert all put Samantha in contact with people beyond her usual circle. The shop supplies several different routes into a case.
Two mysteries become personal
At First Sight turns toward Samantha's origins. In the Shadows is the natural final stop for viewers interested in Philby.
A few more answers
Is Mystery Woman the same series as Mystery 101?
No. Mystery Woman follows Samantha Kinsey, played by Kellie Martin. Mystery 101 follows literature professor Amy Winslow, played by Jill Wagner.
Why do some lists have fewer than eleven films?
Hallmark's current About page omits Mystery Weekend and gives Redemption the pilot's 2003 date. This guide separates the 2003 pilot and 2006 Redemption and includes the independently identified Mystery Weekend.
Which films spend more time on the regular characters?
At First Sight is the clearest choice for Samantha's family background. In the Shadows brings Philby's secretive world into the case. Begin with the pilot before either.
Why does the cast change after the first film?
The 2003 pilot has J.E. Freeman as Philby and Constance Zimmer as Cassie. Clarence Williams III and Nina Siemaszko play those parts in the sequels. Kellie Martin continues as Samantha.
