   The 2016 debut. When a patient is questioned over the sudden deaths of her parents, ex-prosecutor turned therapist Hailey leans on her old career to dig into corporate greed and a faked death. It establishes Hailey, Fincher, and Jonas, and sets the franchise's harder, more forensic tone right away. The place to start.

   Hailey grows suspicious when her friend Pam vanishes right after inheriting her parents' estate, and a note claiming she fled to Hawaii to grieve simply does not add up. With Fincher and Jonas, she races to expose a grifter scheme before it claims its target. A tense missing-person case with an estate-sale backdrop.

   A timely, suspense-forward hook. After a fitness influencer disappears off a dating app, Hailey realizes she is tracking a serial killer who preys on athletic women, and goes undercover on the app to draw him out. One of the most propulsive films in the run, and a sharp riff on the dangers of dating online.

   When Hailey's niece's beloved music teacher vanishes on the night of a school concert, Hailey uncovers embezzlement of the school's construction funds and a bitter rivalry over a promotion. A community-and-family case at heart, with the stakes turning genuinely deadly once a second body surfaces.

   Hailey Dean Mystery: A Marriage Made for Murder(2018)

   A classic poison-and-pattern whodunit. An art dealer's death, first ruled a heart attack, turns out to be arsenic poisoning, and suspicion lands on the widow, whose previous husband died exactly the same way. Hailey works through art forgeries and a tangled motive. The kind of methodical case the franchise does well.

   The most personal film, and an emotional high point at 7.0. Hailey finally summons the strength to reopen the cold case of her fiance Will's murder, working alongside his brother, Detective Danny Morgan, after a college friend's disappearance turns out to be connected. A decade-old scandal surfaces, and so does a lot of old grief.

   Hailey Dean Mysteries: A Prescription for Murder(2019)

   A medical-thriller-flavored case set in Atlanta. After a hospital CEO dies of a rare overdose, the police suspect an Angel of Death among the staff, but Hailey reads the crimes as colder and more calculated than that. Lauren Holly joins the cast. Hidden romances and professional jealousy keep the suspect list moving.

   A courtroom-adjacent entry that puts Hailey's prosecutorial instincts back to work. She is certain District Attorney Paulina D'Orazio is innocent of murdering a man D'Orazio once put away, and fights mounting evidence to prove it. Clearing a friend against a stacked case is exactly the kind of fight Hailey was built for.

   The ninth and final film, with a military edge. When Fincher's old Marine buddy is murdered and the investigating officer waves it off as a random mugging, Hailey helps him dig into a gun-running operation. There is also a very silly subplot about Jonas becoming an unlikely local heartthrob, which lightens the closer nicely.
