Kimberly Williams-Paisley does not do small-town fluff so much as cases, courtrooms, and a city that needs solving. Across nine films since 2001 she has led six, most of them set in a big city rather than under a dusting of fake snow, and the weirdness runs a touch above the Hallmark norm, so she leans toward the cleverer end. Her sweet spot is the Darrow lawyer-detective world, where she has built a real bench of regulars: Tom Cavanagh, Wendie Malick, Antonio Cayonne and Vincent Dangerfield have each turned up in four of her films, a rare case of a settled Hallmark ensemble. "Witness to Murder: A Darrow Mystery" and "Darrow & Darrow: Body of Evidence" both land at 7.1, just ahead of her 2001 debut "Follow the Stars Home." If you like your comfort viewing with a mystery to chew on, she has quietly run that lane for years.
