    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • A 12-year-old child prodigy attending high school and building 'swarm robots' for space research.
    • The protagonist's legal strategy is based on the idea that if a story is 'stupid,' it must be true.
    • The inclusion of the Russian Mob (Bratva) as the underlying threat in a cozy Hallmark mystery.
    • A lawyer who buys a dozen doughnuts she hates every day just because her father did it for luck.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Claire Darrow winning a major settlement for a woman whose invention was stolen by a corporation, establishing Claire as a lawyer who prioritizes truth and the 'little guy.' Her life is upended when her mother, Joanna, a high-powered corporate attorney, returns home after being disgraced in an insider-trading scandal. Joanna wants to join Claire’s struggling firm, but Claire is hesitant due to their conflicting legal philosophies and Joanna’s past abandonment of the family firm. Meanwhile, Claire’s daughter Lou, a 12-year-old genius attending high school, struggles with social isolation and bullying. The central plot kicks off when Dave, a friendly doughnut shop owner on parole, is arrested for a jewelry store robbery. The evidence is overwhelming: his van was seen at the scene, a stolen Rolex was found in his bag, and an eyewitness identified him. Despite this, Claire believes Dave is innocent because his explanation is too 'stupid' to be a lie. Miles, the Assistant District Attorney who has been unsuccessfully asking Claire out for months, is the prosecutor. As Claire investigates, she discovers a mysterious motorcyclist who passes the jewelry store like clockwork. A subplot involves Joanna trying to help Lou fit in by providing high-tech equipment for a school project, which leads to Lou being accused of theft and suspended. This causes a rift between Claire and Joanna over parenting and ethics. The investigation peaks when Claire's associate, Scott, finds security footage from a neighboring fried chicken shop showing the jewelry store owner, Mr. Drescher, planting the stolen watch in Dave's bag days before the robbery. In the courtroom climax, Claire reveals that Drescher staged the robbery to collect insurance money to pay off a $100,000 gambling debt to the Russian mob, who used the motorcyclist to intimidate him. Dave is exonerated, and the real culprit is arrested. The film concludes with Claire and Joanna reconciling, Joanna joining the firm as a consultant, and Claire finally agreeing to a proper date with Miles after Lou's robot wins a school competition.
