    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Jennifer Swift and her sister Meg preparing for the holidays in Salt Lake City. This Christmas is heavy with grief following the death of their Uncle Dave, the heart of their hometown, Hazelwood. Jennifer and her son Simon head to Hazelwood, while Meg stays behind to manage Jennifer's restaurant, Umber and Sprig, during a high-stakes Christmas party competition. Upon arrival, Jennifer is devastated to find a 'for sale' sign on Uncle Dave’s Madison Theater. Her parents, Nan and Pop, explain that the repairs are too costly and they plan to sell to StarMark Cinemas, a corporate chain. Jennifer reconnects with Eric Baker, a city councilman and former high school debate rival, who is overseeing the theater's preservation. Jennifer decides to host 'One Last Movie Night' to honor Dave. The process is fraught with difficulty; the theater is freezing, the equipment is failing, and the local realtor, Barb, is eager to close the StarMark deal. During the first attempted screening, the popcorn machine catches fire and the power fails, leading to a humiliating evacuation. Meanwhile, Jennifer’s head chef in Salt Lake City quits, creating a professional crisis. However, Simon discovers that Uncle Dave had secretly purchased a modern digital projector before he died, hidden in the projection booth. This discovery, along with the town's support during an ornament exchange, inspires Jennifer to try again. She and Eric grow closer, moving past their old rivalry into a budding romance. Jennifer and Meg realize through phone calls that they both want a change: Meg wants to run the restaurant in the city, and Jennifer wants to return to her roots. In the climax, they host a successful screening of old family movies for the entire town. Jennifer and Meg announce they are buying the theater together to run it as a dinner-theater, saving it from the corporate buyout. The film ends with Jennifer and Eric admitting their feelings and the family celebrating a new chapter for the Madison.
