    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The legal assistant Zoey is a secret 'ninja' who takes down a robber with martial arts.
    • A vintage 1870s baseball bat is the central murder weapon and plot device.
    • The climax of the film is solved partly by analyzing a cream cheese stain on a shirt.
    • The town is obsessed with a 'jump-rope-a-thon' fundraiser for wounded veterans.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with the arrest of Laura Graham for the murder of her husband, Tom, following a public argument at a restaurant. Despite the absence of a body, the prosecution secures a conviction based on blood found on Tom's boat and Laura's fingerprints on a wrench. A year later, Roy Wingreen, a young police officer who believes Laura is innocent, approaches Claire Darrow to reopen the case. Meanwhile, Claire's mother Joanna is adjusting to her new life at Claire's firm after being blackballed in New York, and Miles Strasberg, the local DA, takes a leave of absence after a crisis of conscience regarding a sentencing hearing. Claire visits Laura in prison and becomes convinced of her innocence when she realizes Laura is too 'tidy' to have left blood-stained evidence in her own closet. Claire and Miles team up to investigate Tom's life, discovering he was a gambling addict who owed money to dangerous people. They look into Tom's workplace, Capital Investment Guild, where an embezzlement scheme was recently uncovered. To lure out the truth, Claire auctions Tom's prized 1870s baseball bat, leading to a botched robbery at her home where her assistant Zoey displays unexpected martial arts skills to stop the thief. The case shifts dramatically when Tom's body washes up in Canada, proving he was killed by blunt force trauma. In a dramatic appellate hearing, Claire proves that Tom's assistant, Bonnie, dressed in a wig to frame Laura, but that Tom's own original defense lawyer, Guy, was the secret accomplice who actually killed Tom with the baseball bat during a dispute over stolen money. Laura is exonerated, Miles decides to return to his role as a prosecutor to ensure justice is served fairly, and the Darrow family celebrates with a jump-rope-a-thon fundraiser.
