    How unusual is it?

More than most. Santa is real, amnesia, a fake relationship and Santa himself push it well past the usual Hallmark template — the strangest 18% of everything we've logged.

    Full story (spoilers)
North Star Training Academy is introduced as a very serious school for Santas, training mall Santas, parade Santas, and party Santas under the guidance of Kate’s father, Richard. Richard is preparing to retire to Florida, leaving Kate to run the school, even though she feels pressure, doubt, and a little resentment about having Christmas consume her whole life. Bailey returns to help, and Kate is already trying to keep the academy afloat while dealing with the practical realities of staffing, costs, and the looming Christmas season. Kate’s world is complicated by Dan, a rival Santa trainer from Saint Nicholas and an awkward former date from a dating app. Their banter makes it clear they still have chemistry, but they are also on opposite sides of a competitive business divide, with Dan working for the rival school and Kate trying to protect North Star. Meanwhile, the profit-first management around the academy is squeezing the school, and Dan gets pushed out of his job, which leaves him motivated to prove himself and find a place where he can still do what he loves. Everything changes when Kate and Dan discover a mysterious man in the woods who appears to have fallen from a sleigh pulled by reindeer. He remembers nothing, but he is wearing a Santa suit, has an uncanny affinity for milk and cookies, and seems to know things he should not know. Kate and Dan decide to bring him back to North Star and hide him among the other trainees, hoping that the familiar environment will help him recover his memory. The man, who adopts the name Nick, immediately seems to have a magical gift for Santa work. At North Star, Kate and Dan take on the task of training a wildly unconventional group of Santa hopefuls, including a woman determined to be Santa, a puppet-loving trainee, an older man hoping to prove himself, and other outsiders who do not fit the picture-perfect mold of traditional Santa culture. Bailey’s folklore knowledge and the school’s make-do atmosphere help the team work through the curriculum, from presentation and history to the obstacle course. Nick keeps surprising everyone by reading children’s desires, producing gifts from an apparently empty bag, and thriving in front of families, which suggests he may truly be Santa and not just a lost man in costume. The stakes rise when Ned, a mall owner and developer, reveals that he wants to buy North Star’s land for a new mall. Kate is tempted by the financial security, especially because the academy is struggling and the Christmas Cup is their best chance to stay afloat, but Dan pushes her to believe in the school and in their ability to win without becoming something they are not. Their relationship deepens as they work together, fake being married at a party to avoid suspicion, share quieter moments, and begin to understand that the academy’s strength is in its diversity, not in trying to look like everyone else. The Christmas Cup becomes the final test, and Saint Nicholas and North Star battle through trivia, performance, history, and an obstacle course. Nick still has not fully remembered who he is, but Kate keeps encouraging him to use his gift, and the competition ends in a dramatic sudden-death run. When Kris, Nick’s wife, appears with a whistle that calls him back, his memory returns, he heads back to the North Pole, and North Star wins. Kate chooses not to sell the school, decides there is still more to do there, and accepts that she can keep building North Star in her own way. Dan and Kate finally acknowledge their feelings, and Kate ends the story with a future that includes both the academy and a long-delayed trip to Paris.
