Hallmark Amnesia Movies

22 movies · Updated 2026-06

Hallmark amnesia movies turn a bump on the head into a second chance at love, and the channel commits to the bit with a straight face every time. A car spins out on an icy road, a wish goes wrong, a bicycle clips a stranger, and suddenly someone gets to fall for the right person with no memory of the wrong ones. It should be ridiculous. Most of the time it is. That is exactly why I cannot stop watching.

I have ranked these by our own 1-to-10 weirdness score instead of IMDb rating, because the swing from "sweet" to "what did I just watch" is the whole appeal. The top of the list is where the genre loses its mind: an amnesiac Santa on a family's couch, a comet that yanks a 1945 nurse into 2016, a frog a child is convinced she kissed into a man. Further down, you get the gentler forget-and-rediscover romances and a couple of films that treat memory loss as the real, heartbreaking thing it is.

Each note below leans into what makes the premise strange, who is in it, and why it is worth your evening, without giving away how the memory comes back or where the romance lands. The tone is affectionate. These are comfort watches, head injuries and all. Ratings are listed where they exist, and the newest titles do not have one yet.

Ranked by our 1-10 weirdness score (highest first), based on each film's amnesia premise and the standout elements logged in our database.

  1. 1
    Journey Back to Christmas

    Journey Back to Christmas

    2016 · 84 min7.0Weirdness 10/10

Candace Cameron Bure plays a WWII nurse swept from 1945 to 2016 by a passing Christmas comet, and the displacement leaves her foggy about a world that now contains gluten-free toothpaste. Weirdness 10. This is amnesia braided into full time travel, and the quiet hook is her slow realization that her own small kindnesses rippled into the lives around her. Tom Skerritt co-stars. Rated 7 across more than 3,500 votes. The premise is unhinged and the film plays it with total sincerity, which is somehow why it works.

  2. 2
    Just in Time for Christmas

    Just in Time for Christmas

    2015 · 96 min6.4Weirdness 10/10

Eloise Mumford's psychology professor climbs into a carriage pulled by a horse named Mistletoe and steps out three years in the future, disoriented and unsure whose life she has woken into. Weirdness 10. The Northern Lights double as a suburban park portal, and the lost-time confusion stands in for the amnesia hook. Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner both show up, which tells you the energy here. Rated 6.4. A do-over romance with a genuinely strange engine under the hood.

  3. 3
The Night Before the Night Before Christmas

The Night Before the Night Before Christmas

    2010 · 88 min5.6Weirdness 10/10

Santa sets out a day early, crashes onto a workaholic family's Milwaukee roof, loses his memory and his magic sack, and ends up parked on their couch like a stray they took in. Weirdness 10. There is a head elf named Nigel Thumb who throws hands with a security guard, reindeer stashed in a backyard for a full day, and a magic flying word that turns out to be Mrs. Claus's name. Jennifer Beals plays the mom. Rated 5.6. An amnesiac Santa is precisely as chaotic as that sentence promises, and I mean that as praise.

    Where Are You, Christmas?

    Where Are You, Christmas?

    2023 · 84 minWeirdness 10/10

Lyndsy Fonseca's burnt-out Christmas marketing exec wishes the holiday away and wakes in a grayscale world where she alone remembers it, a kind of collective amnesia about the season itself. Weirdness 10. Most of the runtime is shot in black and white, with color seeping back in as people heal, and a creepy app with a robotic Santa voice plays the monkey's paw. Michael Rady co-stars. No rating logged yet. The Pleasantville gimmick is bold, and the film fully commits to it rather than apologizing.

  5. 5
    Rip in Time

    Rip in Time

    2022 · 84 min6.7Weirdness 9/10

Torrey DeVitto's organic farmer finds a confused man in her barn insisting he is from 1789, and he turns out to be the literal son of Rip Van Winkle, fresh out of time and badly out of step. Weirdness 9. A musket ball gets surgically removed from his leg to back up his story, and the film reaches for quantum physics and "Bikini Atoll uranium particles" to explain itself. Niall Matter co-stars. Rated 6.7. He eats raw turnips and calls Sarah "mannish" for wearing pants. The fish-out-of-water disorientation is half the fun.

  6. 6
    Smooch

    Smooch

    2011 · 102 min5.8Weirdness 9/10

A British marquis (Simon Kassianides) is mugged in San Francisco, loses his memory, and is found by an 11-year-old who is convinced her kiss turned a frog into a man. Weirdness 9. She talks her widowed mother (Kellie Martin) into hiring the muddy "prince" as a live-in nanny, and the whole thing is framed as a storybook mirroring its own actors. A young Kiernan Shipka is in the mix. Rated 5.8. It is a Frog Prince retelling powered by amnesia, which is exactly as charmingly odd as it should be.

  7. 7
    The Perfect Pairing

    The Perfect Pairing

    2022 · 82 min6.5Weirdness 8/10

Nazneen Contractor's feared food and wine critic slips on the ice and loses her memory at the very winery she once nearly sank with a brutal review, where the family now knows her only as "Joy." Weirdness 8. The amnesia is waved off as a tidy three-to-seven-day brain reset, there is an "Ice Wine Room" built from actual blocks of ice that will eventually melt, and she tackles a snowy vineyard in heels. Brennan Elliott plays the owner. Rated 6.5. The villain of someone's backstory waking up as the heroine is a great setup, and the film knows it.

  8. 8
    A Christmas to Remember

    A Christmas to Remember

    2016 · 84 min6.5Weirdness 7/10

Mira Sorvino's high-strung New York lifestyle mogul gets amnesia after a crash in a Colorado blizzard, takes the name "Maggie," and helps a widowed vet's kids rediscover Christmas. Weirdness 7. Her first meeting with the love interest involves sitting on a pie while concussed, a "baloney omelette" is floated as a breakfast innovation, and our lifestyle guru somehow despises the color green at Christmas. Cameron Mathison co-stars. Rated 6.5 across more than 3,000 votes. A cozy identity swap carried by its weird little details.

  9. 9

Lea Thompson plays a suburban housewife who is secretly an intelligence consultant code-named Jane Doe, investigating assassinations where junior agents are brainwashed into killing their bosses. Weirdness 7. Amnesia and buried memory sit at the heart of it, along with a 13-year-old poker shark hiding cash under his bed, a doctor who brainwashes agents so they will watch him sing opera karaoke, and a full Manchurian Candidate plot built on Pashto trigger words. Rated 6.2. A spy thriller wearing a Hallmark badge, and stranger for the disguise.

  10. 10
    Three Wise Women

    Three Wise Women

    2010 · 87 min5.6Weirdness 7/10

An Irish-set holiday film about a woman due to marry on Christmas Eve who has to make a life-changing choice, with second chances and a touch of guardian-angel intervention nudging her along. Weirdness 7. Fionnula Flanagan and John Rhys-Davies feature. I will be honest: our database logs only the bones of the plot, so I will not oversell it, but the memory thread runs alongside an angelic push toward forgiveness. Rated 5.6. A quietly odd little Christmas Eve crossroads.

    Remember Sunday

    Remember Sunday

    2013 · 96 min6.9Weirdness 6/10

Alexis Bledel's lonely waitress falls for a charming jewelry-store clerk (Zachary Levi) whose short-term memory resets every single morning after a brain aneurysm. Weirdness 6. It is the 50 First Dates idea played as earnest drama, with Gus recording every conversation so he can "meet" her again, plus a side plot about dark energy and the fate of the universe. Rated 6.9 across more than 12,000 votes, easily the most-voted title here. If you watch one on this list for the feelings rather than the laughs, make it this. It genuinely asks whether love can outlast memory.

  12. 12
    A Gift for Christmas

    A Gift for Christmas

    2017 · 89 min6.6Weirdness 6/10

Ali Liebert's bookish clerk crashes her bicycle into a handsome stranger (Peter Porte), wipes his memory, and then sets out to work out who he is, minding his dog along the way. Weirdness 6. She racks up several counts of breaking and entering in the name of "helping," her friend tries on his cashmere sweaters mid-snoop, and the rival bookstore is named "Books, Books, Books." Rated 6.6 across more than 2,600 votes. A meet-cute that is, technically, a vehicular accident, and the movie is delightfully unbothered by that.

  13. 13
    Falling for Vermont

    Falling for Vermont

    2017 · 84 min6.9Weirdness 6/10

Julie Gonzalo's overwhelmed bestselling author flees her controlling manager-boyfriend, crashes in Vermont, and loses her memory, finding refuge with a kind local doctor (Benjamin Ayres) and his kids. Weirdness 6. Her recall is eventually jogged by an allergic reaction to pecan brownies, the doctor resets his Wi-Fi password daily to force the kids into chores, and she has weirdly expert knowledge of 1930s canoes despite remembering nothing else. Rated 6.9 across more than 2,300 votes. A forget-and-find-yourself romance with the fall foliage doing a lot of heavy lifting.

  14. 14
    Christmas on My Mind

    Christmas on My Mind

    2019 · 84 min6.5Weirdness 6/10

Ashley Greene's Lucy wakes clutching a wedding dress, certain she is late to marry her ex, with no memory of the last two years, including the fact that she is engaged to someone else entirely. Weirdness 6. She is found and "diagnosed" by a man dressed as Santa in the middle of the street, and the amnesia conveniently swallows the breakup conversation that would explain everything. Andrew W. Walker co-stars. Rated 6.5 across nearly 2,000 votes. A which-life-do-I-actually-want romance with a tidy memory gap doing the plotting.

  15. 15
    The Santa Class

    The Santa Class

    2024 · 84 minWeirdness 6/10

Kimberley Sustad inherits a struggling academy that trains people to be Santas and, with a rival trainer (Benjamin Ayres), hides an amnesiac man who appears to be the actual Santa Claus while prepping a crew for a competition. Weirdness 6. There is a whole school for Santas, a sleigh that lifts off into the forest canopy, and a puppet briefly treated as a possible trainee. No rating logged yet. An amnesiac Santa hiding out at Santa school is about as peak-Hallmark as a premise gets, and it leans all the way in.

    Our Italian Christmas Memories

    Our Italian Christmas Memories

    2022 · 84 min6.2Weirdness 5/10

The Colluccia siblings try to reconstruct their late grandmother's legendary pasta sauce to coax back the fading memory of their grandfather, who is living with dementia. Weirdness 5. This is the most grounded and tender entry on the list. The memory loss here is real, handled with care, and threaded through Italian Christmas traditions like the hidden "Christmas Pickle" ornament and the Befana. Beau Bridges plays the grandfather. Rated 6.2. A heartfelt, food-centered family story rather than a romp, and a welcome change of register.

  17. 17
    A Time to Remember

    A Time to Remember

    2003 · 88 min6.2Weirdness 5/10

Dana Delany plays a struggling artist and single mother who comes home for Thanksgiving and slowly clocks that her mother's forgetfulness is the start of Alzheimer's. Weirdness 5. This is the real, painful kind of memory loss, set against old family wounds, with a "Memory Book" as the literal object at the story's center. Doris Roberts and Louise Fletcher feature, and the film is unusually frank about the family's past. Rated 6.2. A grounded mother-and-daughter drama about making peace before the memories slip away.

    Love at First Glance

    Love at First Glance

    2017 · 82 min6.0Weirdness 4/10

Amy Smart's predictable reporter gets dumped for being boring, finds an adventurous photojournalist's lost phone, and decides to profile his life by calling everyone in his contacts. Weirdness 4. The amnesia thread is faint here. The real comedy is investigative reporting on "depressed squirrels," a breakup blamed on the monotony of cheese ravioli, and a reporter essentially building a living obituary of a stranger she has never met. Adrian Grenier co-stars. Rated 6. A reinvention rom-com with an oddball spine.

Weirdness 4. She spends much of it terrified she is a deadbeat mom based on a monogrammed suitcase, and her amnesia is framed as a rare type that erases identity but leaves her able to write stories. Rated 7.2 across more than 2,000 votes, the highest score here. A road-trip mystery with real warmth under the gimmick.

Weirdness 4. A stealth sequel, so the leads are already a couple, and they cheerfully call the amnesia-inducing collision the best thing that ever happened. Rated 6.1 across more than 1,100 votes. A cozy community-activism Christmas romance with an oddly violent origin story.

    The Long Shot

    The Long Shot

    2004 · 94 min6.5Weirdness 4/10

Per the film's own summary, a police officer spends one romantic day with a freelance photographer, then suffers amnesia after being shot on duty that night, and has to reassemble shattered memories to find her. Weirdness 5. The trail runs through a misidentified murder victim and an international assassin, with a good-luck cologne called Mandar and a chase across an airport baggage train. Julie Benz and Marsha Mason are credited. Rated 6.5. A surprisingly noir-tinged amnesia thriller that does not behave like a Hallmark romance at all.
