    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist's previous writing topics include 'therapeutic macrame' and 'personalized dinnerware'.

    Full story (spoilers)
Samantha Barclay is a staff writer for 'Compass' magazine in New York City, but her editor, Amanda, criticizes her work for being too intellectual and lacking emotional depth, specifically citing her articles on 'therapeutic macrame' and 'personalized dinnerware.' When Samantha's parents, Preston and Bonnie, announce that their farm, Meadowbrook, will host the Northeastern Championships, Samantha returns home to write a cover-worthy story. Upon arrival, she is blindsided to find her ex-husband, Luke Travers, living in the carriage house and working as her father's trainer. The tension between the former couple is immediate, rooted in their young marriage where Samantha felt the pressure of perfection and Luke felt intimidated by the Barclay family's status. As Samantha researches her story, she learns that her parents are secretly considering selling Meadowbrook. The stakes rise when Preston is injured by falling hay bales, leaving him unable to compete. Samantha, who quit riding years ago after a traumatic fall and a breakdown in communication with her father, decides to take his place on the horse, Rascal. Luke becomes her trainer, and through their sessions, they begin to address the 'wall' Samantha has built around her heart. Samantha discovers that her father, whom she thought was disappointed in her career choice, has actually been secretly collecting every article she has ever written. This emotional breakthrough allows her to ride not for perfection, but for the love of the sport. During the championships, Samantha overcomes a shaky first round to deliver a flawless second run, winning the competition. The victory secures the farm's future; Preston and Bonnie decide not to sell, instead promoting Samantha's sister, Alexandra, to General Manager and hiring Luke as the permanent trainer. Samantha and Luke reconcile, realizing they have both grown enough to handle a second chance at love, and Samantha finally writes the heartfelt article that earns her the magazine cover.
