    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The minister dies on-screen with a loud 'thud' immediately after the wedding montage.
    • A husband hides his wife's career-defining job offer in the trash.
    • The mother-in-law wears a 'Sicilian widow' outfit to the wedding to show her disapproval.
    • The protagonist falls out of a tree and off a hotel lattice while spying on her husband.
    • The movie ends with one of the three main couples actually staying broken up, which is rare for the genre.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Reverend Mike officiating three separate weddings for best friends Stella, Erin, and Casey, while delivering a sermon on the difference between a wedding and a marriage. Immediately after the ceremonies, Reverend Mike dies of a sudden heart attack before he can sign and file the marriage licenses. A month later, the three women receive letters from the County Clerk informing them that they are not legally married. This revelation hits at a time of high tension for all three couples. Casey and Nick are living in a cramped studio apartment where Nick's DIY plumbing involves using a wrench to turn on the shower. Tension escalates when Nick hires his high school ex-girlfriend, the former prom queen Anna Delano, as his assistant. Casey, feeling insecure and 'frumpy,' undergoes a makeover but eventually falls out of a tree while spying on Nick at a hotel, only to learn Anna is actually engaged to Nick's architect. Meanwhile, Erin and David's marriage is strained by David's mother, Renee, who moves in and manipulates David with feigned illnesses. The conflict peaks when Renee accidentally triggers Erin's severe peanut allergy by putting peanuts in pad thai, leading to a confrontation where David finally chooses Erin over his mother's antics. Stella's storyline takes a darker turn; she is married to the wealthy and traditional Mark, who wants a baby immediately and views Stella as a trophy. Stella discovers she has been offered her dream job at the Cheramoya Museum, but Mark hid the acceptance letter in the trash to keep her at home. Unlike the other two, Stella realizes that Mark does not respect her autonomy. In the climax, Casey and Nick reconcile when he gives her her old prom crown, and Erin and David set firm boundaries with Renee. Stella, however, chooses to leave Mark, realizing she wants a partner, not a possessor. The film concludes with a joint legal ceremony for the two remaining couples. Stella, now working at the museum, meets a handsome man who turns out to be the rightful owner of a dog she was fostering, suggesting a new, healthier romance on the horizon.
