Kite Festival of Love

The film opens with Hannah Adams on a disappointing date with a realtor, complaining to her sister Shirley and brother-in-law Brian that she hasn't found 'her person.' While registering for the local kite festival, Hannah encounters Gavin McQueen and his daughter, Parker. It is revealed that Gavin and Hannah knew each other as children; Gavin was a kite-flying prodigy until a young Hannah, sporting pink glasses, broke his record. Gavin, a widower and woodworker, has moved back to Seaside to be closer to his parents, Margaret and John. A deal is struck: Hannah will provide music lessons to Parker in exchange for Gavin building a reclaimed wood dining table for Shirley and Brian’s upcoming 10th wedding anniversary. As the lessons progress, Hannah and Gavin grow closer, spending time 'wood hunting' at a local garage where they discover a vintage kite-building book. However, conflict arises in the form of Katie Longhorn, a local lawyer and Gavin's high school ex-girlfriend. Katie is handling Gavin's property title transfer and uses the business relationship to insert herself into his life, even referring to Hannah as merely a 'babysitter' to undermine her connection with Gavin. A misunderstanding occurs when Hannah sees Gavin and Katie at a 'thank you' dinner, which she mistakes for a romantic date. This leads to a period of awkwardness where Hannah tries to distance herself, despite her growing love for Parker and Gavin. Gavin’s mother, Margaret, eventually gives him the advice that 'the painting just doesn't match the wall,' encouraging him to choose the person who actually fits his life. At the annual Kite Festival, Parker wins the novice division, and Hannah and Gavin face off in the expert category. Hannah wins the competition while wearing her 'lucky' pink glasses. Following the contest, Gavin makes a public declaration of his feelings on stage, presenting Hannah with a custom-built kite. He quotes the vintage book, stating that a kite built for someone who holds one's heart will soar with the love that fostered it. The film concludes with the couple kissing and celebrating Shirley and Brian's anniversary at the new table Gavin crafted.
