Full story (spoilers)
Lily Bellenger is a successful executive producer in Los Angeles working on 'Wedding Countdown,' a reality show where couples compete for a $50,000 grand prize. When a couple drops out of the upcoming episode being filmed in her alma mater town of Pineville, Lily returns to find a replacement. She casts Brynn Matthews, an ambitious lifestyle blogger, only to discover that Brynn's fiancé is Scott Meyers, Lily's college sweetheart. Lily and Scott had moved to New York together after graduation, but their relationship ended when Lily chose a career in LA while Scott returned to Pineville to open an antique shop.
As production begins, the tension is high. Lily is forced to document every intimate detail of her ex's new relationship. While Brynn is focused on using the show to boost her brand and move to Los Angeles, Scott remains rooted in his love for Pineville and his quiet life. Throughout the filming, Lily and Scott are frequently thrown together, sharing nostalgic moments at their old college haunts and discussing their past. Lily even helps Scott rewrite his wedding vows, adding the emotional depth that Brynn's 'followers' would expect. Meanwhile, Lily reconnects with her old English professor, who encourages her to return to her true passion: creative writing.
The conflict reaches a breaking point when Brynn reveals she has been looking at LA real estate without Scott's knowledge. On the day of the wedding, a rainstorm forces the ceremony indoors. In a private moment before the vows, Scott and Brynn realize that their goals are fundamentally incompatible—Brynn wants fame and the city, while Scott wants home and history. They mutually decide to call off the wedding at the altar. In the aftermath, Lily realizes she no longer wants to produce 'reality' that feels fake. She turns down a major network deal, resigns from the show, and promotes her assistant Tandy to Executive Producer. Lily decides to stay in Pineville to write her novel, and she and Scott reunite at their favorite college pizza spot, acknowledging that they never truly stopped loving each other.
