Caribbean Summer

Jade Taylor is a workaholic news producer at CNB in New York whose life revolves around her job. During a high-stakes interview with a Congresswoman, Jade's personal heartbreak over her ex-boyfriend Eric causes her to accidentally feed her own emotional dialogue into the teleprompter and the host's earpiece, resulting in a disastrous live broadcast. Her boss, Tabitha, forces her to take a leave of absence to avoid burnout. Jade's assistant books a trip to Maceo Island through a site called 'Luxury Away,' but upon arrival, Jade finds that the house is not a rental—it is the home of a man named Ford. Because the island is fully booked, Ford reluctantly allows Jade to stay in his guest room. While Jade initially struggles to relax and obsessively investigates the rental scam, she begins to bond with Ford and the local community, including Hughes, a man pressured by his father to be a prestigious 'notary' despite his passion for cooking. Jade eventually discovers Ford's secret: he is Malcolm Elliot Jr., a former New Jersey ADA who disappeared after a money-laundering case ended in a mistrial. Ford reveals that his mentor, DA George Clayton, took a bribe and leaked documents, then made Ford take the fall. The conflict peaks when Jade's network, tipped off by her research, sends a reporter and cameraman to the island to ambush Ford just as George Clayton announces a run for Governor. Ford initially blames Jade for the media intrusion, but she proves her loyalty by quitting her job's directive and helping him instead. Malcolm decides to finally face his past and grants Jade an exclusive interview to expose Clayton's corruption. The film concludes with the scandal being resolved, Hughes taking over his family's restaurant, and Ford planning a move to New York to pursue pro bono law and a relationship with Jade.
