    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The meta-commentary on soap opera tropes like amnesia, long-lost twins, and characters returning from the dead.
    • Darin's suggestion to bring his character back as a 'cool modern vampire' wearing a cape.
    • The 'spite-writing' plot point where the protagonist attempts to kill the lead character with a bus due to a romantic misunderstanding.
    • The rapid aging of child characters (SORAS) is explicitly mentioned when a character who was three years old a year ago is now a teenager.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens on the set of the soap opera 'Forever,' where head writer Maggie Coleman and producer Alice are informed by network executive Gregory that the show faces cancellation due to plummeting ratings. The only solution offered is to bring back fan-favorite actor Darin Mitchell, who played Detective Preston Stillwater before leaving for a failed Broadway run. Maggie, who has a complicated romantic history with Darin, is sent to his farm to recruit him. Initially resistant and enjoying his life as a 'gentleman farmer' growing tomatoes, Darin eventually agrees to a four-week contract with the caveat of script approval. As production begins, Darin suffers from a crisis of confidence following his Broadway flop, even struggling to remember simple lines. Maggie supports him, using her knowledge of his craft to help him regain his footing. A subplot involves veteran actors Walter and Lucinda celebrating their 40th anniversary, which serves as a mirror for Maggie and Darin's unresolved feelings. During a soap opera convention, the two grow closer, but Maggie becomes convinced Darin has a secret girlfriend named Fran. In reality, Fran is an acting coach helping Darin overcome his performance anxiety. The tension peaks when Maggie hears a rumor that Darin has signed onto a new play in New York. Feeling betrayed and believing he is leaving again, she spitefully writes a script where his character, Preston, is killed off by being hit by a bus. However, she soon discovers the play is actually based in Los Angeles and that Darin intended to stay for her. In a frantic climax, she rushes to the studio to stop the 'bus accident' script and confesses her mistake. Alice decides to retire, handing the reins of the show to Maggie, who pitches a more modern, grounded direction for the series. The film concludes with Maggie and Darin filming a scene that reflects their real-life reconciliation, ending with a declaration of love and a kiss as they realize that 'Forever' is indeed a long time.
