    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The concept of 'Cupid Incorporated' as a corporate entity with a 'Head Office'.
    • A rule where one successful match is 'cancelled out' by a breakup.
    • A subplot involving a literal stalker being brought onto a talk show by mistake.
    • The protagonist being suspended from a harness as a 'Cupid' puppet during the climax.

Why we’d put this one on

Joely Fisher plays a cynical talk-show host with sinking ratings who gets a visit from a rep of Cupid Incorporated, played by Jamie Kennedy, and a deal: successfully match one couple before Valentine's Day to earn her own shot at love. Weirdness 8, and the corporate-fate bureaucracy is the gag, complete with a Head Office and a rule where one good match gets cancelled out by a breakup. At 5.1 it is the lowest-rated of the bunch, a clunky but good-natured 2012 romp. There is a climax where she dangles from a harness as a Cupid puppet. Best enjoyed with low expectations and high spirits.

    Full story (spoilers)
Eve Lovett is the workaholic host of a struggling talk show in Los Angeles, managed by her producer and long-time friend, Rick. After a disastrous segment with a psychic, Eve is visited by Vernon Gart, who claims to be from 'Cupid Incorporated.' Vernon reveals intimate details of Eve's past heartbreaks and presents her with an ultimatum: she has until Valentine's Day to successfully match one couple, or she will remain alone forever. Skeptical but desperate, Eve begins meddling in the lives of her staff. Her first attempt involves sound man Doug and makeup artist Trina; she sets them up on a date on live television, only to discover Doug was already engaged to the props girl, Maureen, causing a messy workplace breakup. Vernon informs her that this failure has set her back to zero. Eve then successfully pairs her assistant Rita with Ben from the mailroom by gifting them Lakers tickets, but Vernon cruelly rules that this success is 'cancelled out' by the heartbreak she caused Maureen. A third attempt to reunite security guard Vance with his high school sweetheart, Laura, results in a public relations nightmare when the woman Eve finds turns out to be a stalker named Didi who has a restraining order against Vance. As the deadline approaches, Eve helps the receptionist Janice find a new dog at a shelter run by Harvey, who happens to be Janice's old high school flame. Although the two reconnect, Vernon claims this doesn't count because Eve's primary intent was to find a dog, not a romantic match. Throughout these trials, Eve begins to realize she has feelings for Rick, but her fear of vulnerability leads her to try and set him up with her friend Nancy instead. Hurt by the 'hand-off,' Rick quits the show. During the live Valentine's Day broadcast, Eve abandons her script and the 'Cupid' harness she is hanging from to confess her love for Rick on air. Rick returns to the set, they reconcile, and the ratings soar. The film concludes with Vernon Gart on a cell phone talking to his wife, confirming he is indeed the literal Cupid and his work is done.
