    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The use of a thermite reaction to 'vaporize' a human body is significantly more graphic and scientific than typical Hallmark fare.
    • The opening anecdote about a judge locking up a lawyer for saying 'even a blind squirrel finds a nut' is strangely specific and lengthy.
    • The antagonist uses a lookalike employee as a 'body double' to incinerate in a car to fake his own death.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Hailey Dean, a former Assistant District Attorney who transitioned into therapy after the traumatic murder of her fiancé, attending a retirement party for her mentor, Darnell. At the party, she has a meet-cute with Jonas McClellan, a medical examiner, after accidentally spilling a drink on him. Their budding conversation is interrupted by a news report: Dr. Laura Stone, a prominent surgeon and mother of Hailey’s friend Amanda, has been found dead in her bathtub. Hailey immediately rushes to support Amanda, finding the family in shambles. Detective Danny Morgan, a close friend of Hailey's, initially suspects an accidental overdose of sleep medication, but the discovery that Amanda used her mother’s credentials to obtain the pills makes the daughter a prime suspect. The tragedy doubles when Laura’s husband, trucking magnate Dewey Stone, apparently dies in a violent car explosion shortly after his wife's funeral. The investigation reveals that $19 million has been embezzled from the Stone family and corporate accounts. While the police focus on a disgruntled employee named Ray Kuttner, Hailey remains skeptical. She and her investigator friend Fincher revisit the crash site and find a titanium rod that survived the intense heat of the fire. Jonas identifies the object as a surgical nail used for a broken leg—an injury Dewey Stone never had, but Kuttner did. Hailey realizes Dewey is alive and murdered Kuttner to fake his own death. She deduces that Dewey killed his wife because she discovered his drug-smuggling operation. Before she can alert the authorities, Dewey kidnaps her, planning to flee to Brazil. Using the GPS from Kuttner’s phone, which Dewey was carrying, Danny and Jonas track them to a private airfield. After a tense standoff, Dewey is apprehended, and Hailey is rescued. The film concludes with Danny receiving a promotion to Homicide and Hailey finally beginning to open her heart to Jonas.
