Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Hailey Dean and Jonas McClellan on a date that is cut short when Hailey suffers a PTSD flashback near the alley where her fiancé, Will, was murdered years ago. Hailey's friend, Pam Finan, is struggling with the recent death of her parents and is in the process of selling their massive estate. Pam introduces Hailey to her new boyfriend and realtor, Ryan King, and the aggressive estate sale coordinator, Doris. Shortly after, Pam vanishes, leaving behind a note claiming she needs to grieve alone in Hawaii. Hailey immediately suspects foul play because Pam left behind her mother's locket, which she never takes off. Hailey and Jonas conduct an illegal search of Pam's house, finding a microscopic speck of blood on a vase, but they are caught and arrested by Detective Danny Morgan in a moment of comedic tension. The investigation intensifies when Ryan is seemingly targeted in a hit-and-run by a white truck, which he claims was driven by Pam's 'stalker' ex-boyfriend, Lance Hunter. However, the stakes turn lethal when Jonas is poisoned with Gelsemine (Yellow Jasmine) through skin contact after a 'stranger' spills coffee on him. While Jonas is in a medically induced coma, Hailey realizes that Ryan was limping before his accident and that he and Doris are actually a mother-son team of serial grifters who target heiresses. Hailey tracks them to an abandoned warehouse near the airport, where she finds a captive Pam. In a tense climax, Hailey manipulates the dysfunctional relationship between Ryan and Doris, eventually shooting Ryan to save Pam. The film concludes with Ryan confessing to four other murders across the country to avoid the death penalty, while Hailey realizes that her fiancé Will's death was not a random mugging, but a targeted hit, setting up a larger series arc.
