Matt Lutz never had to carry a film, and that is the interesting part. Across all 10 of his titles he plays the supporting hand, never top-billed, working the same big-city mystery beat alongside John Larroquette and Marta DuBois in every single one. Forget snow and small towns. There is not a Christmas movie in the bunch. His whole run is packed into a tight stretch from 2005 to 2007, which reads less like a sprawling career and more like one long crime series he was a fixture of. The high point is McBride: The Chameleon Murder from 2005, which at 7.0 edges out Murder Past Midnight and It's Murder, Madam just behind it. If you like your Hallmark with a body to find rather than a meet-cute, his stretch of whodunits is where he lives.
