    • Counterfeit money featuring Benjamin Franklin in headphones and a 'House of Rock' banner.
    • A murder weapon that is a 'Viewer's Choice' television award.
    • The killer is caught because her roommate was running an eBay business selling the victim's stolen laundry.
    • A lawyer who brings a dog named Jesse to the office and uses a 'Rottweiler' temp secretary.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with attorney McBride successfully defending Mo Feldstein against counterfeiting charges by proving the 'evidence' plates were actually movie props featuring Benjamin Franklin wearing headphones. Meanwhile, shock-talk host Marty Caine orchestrates a cruel televised segment where guest Joe Devine proposes to his girlfriend Tracy, only for Marty to reveal she is having an affair with Joe's friend Eddie. Joe threatens Marty's life on air and is later caught at the studio covered in Marty's blood after the host is found bludgeoned to death with a 'Viewer's Choice' award. McBride and his associate Phil Dewberry believe Joe is innocent despite the overwhelming circumstantial evidence. They interview Marty's wife, Victoria, who admits the marriage was a sham due to Marty's constant philandering, and Arnie, the producer, who claims to have a solid phone alibi. McBride discovers that Marty was planning to quit television for politics, which would have left his staff unemployed. A key piece of evidence—Marty's clean white monogrammed shirt—is missing from the crime scene. McBride's investigation leads him to Becky Tranter, Marty's assistant and the daughter of Marty's deceased former partner, Eddie Tranter. Phil goes on a date with Becky to gather information and notices she has a skin condition (dermatitis) and a habit of burning garden waste. McBride eventually discovers that Becky's roommate, Gina, was Marty's secret mistress and had been stealing Marty's belongings to sell on eBay. Gina unknowingly stole the bloody shirt Becky tried to hide, swapping it for a different one. In a dramatic courtroom climax, McBride reveals that Becky killed Marty after he insulted her father's memory, admitting he drove him to suicide. Becky thought she had burned the incriminating bloody shirt, but because of Gina's theft, the shirt remained as evidence, complete with Becky's DNA-linked skin cream. Joe is exonerated, and Tracy leaves him to pursue her singing career without the help of tabloid notoriety.
