    Full story (spoilers)
Jazz Ramsey, a former firefighter turned K-9 trainer, visits her alma mater, Astor Academy, to give a forensics demonstration for the science club. During the exercise, her trainee dog Zeus alerts her to a location in the floorboards of the unused third floor, uncovering a corpse. Detective Nick Kolesov, Jazz's ex-boyfriend, arrives to lead the investigation. The body is initially identified as Bernadette Quinn, a notoriously strict teacher who supposedly resigned and retired at the end of the previous school year. Jazz, who credits Quinn for her own work ethic, feels compelled to investigate despite Nick's warnings to stay back. As they dig into Quinn's life, they discover she was a woman of tragic secrets; her husband and daughter were killed years prior by a drunk driver named Susan Harper. Suspicion initially falls on the school's custodian, Eddie, who has a gambling problem, and Asher Manard, a protective father who had accused Quinn of obsessing over his daughter, Maddie. Jazz realizes that Maddie bears an uncanny resemblance to Quinn's deceased daughter, Laila. The mystery takes a bizarre turn when Jazz discovers that Quinn's lawyer, Deirdre Mason, also disappeared around the same time Quinn 'retired.' By comparing resignation letters, Jazz finds they are identical, suggesting one person wrote both. The climax reveals that Miss Quinn is actually alive; she murdered Susan Harper (who had changed her name to Deirdre Mason) as an act of long-delayed revenge, stuffed her in the school floor, and assumed the woman's identity to tie up loose ends. Quinn then kidnapped Maddie, believing the girl to be her daughter reincarnated. Jazz and Nick track Quinn to a hideout where Jazz uses her training to de-escalate the situation. Quinn is arrested, Maddie is returned to her father, and Jazz finds closure regarding her own father's death. The film ends with Nick gifting Jazz a new puppy, Odin, signaling a potential romantic and professional reconciliation.
