Christina Joy Osborne is a sharp-tongued critic whose reviews can make or break a business. Her editor sends her to a winter wine festival in upstate New York to review new vintages, specifically hoping she'll find something to 'buzz' about. As 'Joy' stays with the family, she discovers a natural talent for baking and marketing, helping Michael refine his ice wine and bonding deeply with Britney. She encourages Michael to follow his passion despite his father's fears. However, during a trip to town, she encounters a rival critic, Eleanor Parks, which triggers her memory. Christina realizes she is the 'villain' who ruined the Hollingbrooks' reputation. Terrified of losing her new 'family,' Christina keeps her identity secret while using her professional knowledge to help the winery prepare for a high-stakes barrel-tapping party. She secretly calls her editor and rival to ensure the event gets the right coverage. The conflict peaks when Kevin arrives at the winery to find her, inadvertently revealing to Michael that 'Joy' is actually C.J. Osborne. Michael feels betrayed, believing she was undercover to write another hit piece. Christina leaves the winery in disgrace but decides to make things right. She organizes a spectacular presentation for the ice wine at the festival and convinces Eleanor Parks to attend. The ice wine is a massive success, and Christina writes a final, glowing review that restores the winery's prestige before retiring from criticism to become a consultant. Michael realizes her change of heart was genuine, and the two reconcile at the festival.
