Christmas on My Mind

The film opens in Portland, Maine, where Lucy Lovett is seen frantically running through the streets clutching a wedding dress. She slips on a patch of ice and hits her head, losing consciousness. When she wakes up, she is greeted by a man dressed as Santa Claus and is shocked to learn she is in Portland, not her hometown of Bedford Harbor. She believes the date is December 17th, 2017, and that she is about to marry her longtime boyfriend, Zach Callahan. Lucy takes a taxi to Bedford Harbor and enters Zach’s restaurant, The Roadhouse, only to be met with confusion. Zach reveals the devastating truth: they broke up two years ago, and he is now dating a woman named Morgan. At the hospital, Dr. Albright explains that Lucy has retrograde amnesia, having lost the last two years of her life. Lucy’s current life soon arrives in the form of her friend Anna and her actual fiancé, Brad Morgan. Lucy returns to her Aunt Audrey’s cottage in Bedford Harbor to try and jog her memory. She finds herself caught between two worlds: the corporate, suit-wearing version of herself that Brad knows, and the artistic, pie-baking version of herself that Zach remembers. As she participates in the town's Christmas Festival—including a skating event and a snowman-making contest—she begins to realize that she abandoned her passion for art education to pursue a more 'practical' career in Portland. Brad is patient but clearly represents a life Lucy doesn't fully recognize, while Zach remains guarded because of the pain their original breakup caused. Subplots involve Zach’s brother Beau falling for Lucy’s friend Anna, and Zach’s mother Trudy lamenting the loss of the town’s youth art program since Lucy left. The tension peaks during a 'Silent Night Pie Auction' where Lucy bakes a strudel that reminds Zach of their past. However, the emotional climax occurs during a sleigh ride when Lucy finally remembers the night they split. She discovers that Zach was actually the one who broke up with her; he felt he was holding her back from her big-city dreams and 'set her free,' even though she didn't want to go. Feeling betrayed that he let her spend years thinking she was the one who walked away, Lucy leaves for Portland to attend a high-stakes meeting with investor Alex Miles. At the meeting, Lucy has an epiphany: she doesn't want to build a corporate wing for the foundation; she wants to fund art education. She delivers a passionate pitch that wins over the investor and breaks off her engagement with Brad, realizing she was actually on her way back to Zach to call off her Portland life when the accident happened. She rushes back to Bedford Harbor and finds Zach at the community Christmas tree. They confess their love, and Lucy announces she is moving back home to stay.
