In 2023, Mike and Zian face a literal disaster when their kitchen is unfinished and the power goes out just hours before their first dinner as parents. The emotional turning points occur as the characters realize they cannot control the future. In 1973, a blizzard traps the family, and John must deliver his daughter, Ivy, in the living room with the help of a police officer. In 1999, Conrad reconciles with his mother after a talk with their neighbor, Ivy (the baby from 1973, now grown).
