We Need A Little Christmas

The film opens with Julie, a stressed architectural designer and widow, moving into a new home with her young son, Gavin. Julie is struggling to balance her business with her desire to make Gavin's first Christmas without his father perfect by adhering to a strict schedule of old family traditions. Gavin is enrolled in a local Christmas day camp where he meets Irene, their new neighbor and a former stage actress. Irene uses magic tricks and empathy to bond with Gavin, who is initially withdrawn and sad. Meanwhile, Julie's business takes a hit when a major client cancels, but a chance encounter at a local restaurant leads her to Peter, the owner. Peter hires Julie to renovate his family's historic restaurant, and a slow-burning romance begins to develop as they work together to honor the building's history while modernizing it. Irene reveals to Julie that she also experienced profound loss, having raised her grandson Miles after her daughter and son-in-law died in the military. When Miles, now a military doctor, calls to say he is stuck on a remote island due to a medical emergency and lack of flights, Irene is heartbroken but tries to stay positive. Julie initially feels threatened by Gavin's close bond with Irene, leading to a conflict where she tells Irene to step back. However, after realizing that Gavin needs a 'village' of support, Julie apologizes and joins Irene's community efforts. Julie and Peter use their combined professional networks to find a way to get Miles home, eventually coordinating a trip via a cargo ship and a rerouted flight. On Christmas Eve, Gavin presents Julie with a 'memory chest' he made with Irene's help, signaling his healing process. The story culminates in a surprise reunion at Irene's house when Peter drives four hours to pick up Miles and bring him to the Christmas Eve dinner, solidifying the new bonds of friendship and romance between all the characters.
