The Jane Mysteries has the most improbable origin story in Hallmark's cozy-crime stable, and that is exactly why it works. Jane Da Silva is a lounge singer who comes home to Baltimore after her uncle dies and learns she has inherited his side hustle: a nonprofit detective agency with the gloriously on-the-nose name the Foundation for Righting Wrongs. She keeps the gigs and takes the cases. Each film is a self-contained whodunit where Jane reopens something the system got wrong and follows it clue by clue, usually in a disguise.
Jodie Sweetin plays Jane in all four films, and the real engine here is the trio around her. Stephen Huszar is Detective John Cameron, the by-the-book cop whose slow-burn rapport with Jane runs the length of the series, and Paris Jefferson plays Aunt Sadie, who keeps a costume closet for undercover work and steals nearly every scene she is in. The four films span 2023 and 2024 and run a tidy 84 minutes each. Don't come for grit. My pick for the most propulsive of the four. A teenager has been convicted of a pharmacy murder he swears he didn't do, and Jane and Detective Cameron are racing a clock to prove it before he is locked away for good. The wrongful-conviction stakes give this 2024 entry real urgency, and Aunt Sadie's frankly unhinged off-screen resume comes in handy at the worst possible moment. Jodie Sweetin and Stephen Huszar lead.

The Jane Mysteries: Murder at Moseby(2024)
The moodiest of the set, and the one with the best hook. A college ex of Jane's resurfaces holding a 15-year-old photograph that suggests someone was murdered during the school's first Edgar Allan Poe Festival. To dig in, Jane goes undercover as a visiting vocal arts professor at Moseby College, dyes her hair black, and walks into a building full of ravens and tight-lipped faculty. The case also brushes up against her own mother's death. Stephen Huszar returns alongside Sweetin in this 2024 entry.

The funniest one, and proof the series knows it. A journalist vanishes right after winning a pun-themed game show, and Jane's hunt for her leads into a TV newsroom and onto the payroll of a very talkative parrot named Perry, who turns out to be more useful than half the human witnesses.
