    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins on New Year's Eve, where four strangers—Nic, Lauren, Sydney, and Tara—meet after various romantic disappointments and vow to always have each other's backs, forming 'The Love Club.' Ten years later, Nic is a successful interior designer engaged to Warren, a business-minded man who proposes by dropping a ring in gravy during a chaotic Thanksgiving dinner. Feeling a lack of romantic spark, Nic calls a meeting of the Love Club. She reveals she has kept letters from a college pen pal assignment with a student from Paradine University named 'J,' whose soulful words made her feel 'complete.' Lauren uses her connections to identify 'J' as Josh Nolan, the manager of the Kenworthy Inn. Nic and her friends travel to the inn, where Nic impulsively impersonates the interior designer hired for the inn's upcoming remodel to get close to Josh. Nic and Josh immediately bond over their shared love of 90s rom-coms and pizza, but Josh is visibly uncomfortable when Nic brings up the pen pal letters. While Nic is convinced Josh is her soulmate, her friend Tara notices that the handwriting in the letters changes after the first note. Josh eventually confesses that he has dyslexia and, struggling with the college assignment, had a classmate write the letters for him. To keep Nic interested, Josh foolishly hires Darian, a local 'healer' and yoga instructor, to pretend he was the ghostwriter. Darian is a bizarre character obsessed with 'toxins' and 'blue light,' and the ruse falls apart when Josh's jealousy leads him to interrupt a 'healing' session. The situation further complicates when the actual designer, Becky, arrives at the inn, exposing Nic's lie. Feeling betrayed and foolish, Nic returns home and realizes she cannot marry Warren, officially breaking off the engagement. However, the Love Club performs one last investigation and finds the real writer, Mark Duggan. Nic meets Mark and discovers that while he physically wrote the letters, the stories and sentiments—including a touching story about a devoted cardinal—actually came from Josh's heart. Realizing Josh is the true source of the connection she felt, Nic rushes back to the inn. She finds that Josh has turned down a job offer elsewhere to stay and buy the inn himself, inspired by her belief in him. The two reconcile, with Josh promising to be her 'happily ever after.'
