    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The 'Concept House' Lacey designs is a dystopian nightmare with no walls and 'virtual windows' that can show Christmas 24/7.
    • The family treats the 'Christmas Cottage' legend with the intensity of a blood oath.
    • Ean's 'vagabond chef' lifestyle involves harvesting his own indigo milk cap mushrooms and using handmade hatchets to julienne vegetables.

Why we’d put this one on

Merritt Patterson plays a workaholic interior designer who travels to her best friend's wedding and gets handed the job of decorating the legendary Christmas Cottage, a place rumored to guarantee true love to anyone who stays in it. Naturally she ends up snowed in there with her ex, Steve Lund. At a weirdness of 8 the side details run wild: the concept house she designs is a wall-less dystopia with virtual windows showing Christmas 24/7, and Lund's vagabond chef julienne vegetables with handmade hatchets. At a 6.3 it is a cozy second-chance romance with a magical-cottage hook. Whether the legend delivers is the point.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Lacey Quinn presenting a high-tech 'concept house' for her firm, Quinn & Whistler. The design features virtual windows and sensors that intuit the occupant's needs, reflecting Lacey's focus on controlled, efficient living. Her business partner and boyfriend, Roger, is thrilled as they are on the verge of landing the massive Pine Bay Development deal. Despite the workload, Lacey travels to her best friend Ava's wedding, where she is the maid of honor. Ava's family owns a 'Christmas Cottage' with a legend: any couple that spends the night there during the holiday will find true love. Lacey, a skeptic, agrees to decorate the cottage as a wedding gift for Ava and her fiancé Mason. At the wedding festivities, Lacey runs into Ean, Ava's brother and Lacey's former flame. Ean is a 'vagabond chef' who has spent years traveling the world, the polar opposite of Lacey's structured life. While attempting to decorate the cottage, Ean insists on traditional methods like cutting down a real tree, while Lacey prefers modern, minimalist decor. A massive blizzard hits, trapping Lacey and Ean in the cottage overnight without power. During the night, they reminisce about their past, their failed camping trips, and the reasons they broke up—primarily Ean's wanderlust and Lacey's need for professional roots. The 'magic' of the cottage begins to work as they realize their chemistry is still present. When the roads clear, Lacey returns to the lodge to find Roger has arrived early. Roger is entirely focused on the Pine Bay pitch, even suggesting they build a physical model of the house during the wedding weekend. Lacey begins to feel the strain of a relationship built solely on professional ambition. She spends more time with Ean, who teaches her to make wreaths and takes her to a town tree-lighting ceremony, reminding her of the 'old Lacey' who drew from the heart. Ean confesses he still loves her and is considering staying local to open a 'pop-up' restaurant, but Lacey initially rejects him, citing her commitment to the life she built with Roger. At the wedding reception, both Ean and Lacey give poignant toasts about the nature of love. Ean speaks about loving the parts of a person that others take for granted, while Lacey realizes that real love involves sacrifice and shared dreams rather than just shared goals. Realizing she is unhappy, Lacey breaks up with Roger, though they agree to remain business partners. She discovers Ean has already left for the airport to take a job in Finland. However, after one last trip to the cottage to set things up for the newlyweds, she finds Ean there. He decided not to leave, and the two confess their love, finally succumbing to the cottage's romantic legend.
