    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist's job involves a somewhat unethical scheme to lie to consumers by selling New York tap water as 'Czech' water.
    • The 'rusty nail' injury is treated with an oddly specific list of terrifying medical complications like 'laryngospasm' and 'renal failure' found on the internet.
    • The 'Grand Gesture' fake-out where the lead thinks she's being proposed to at a funeral-adjacent time is exceptionally awkward.

    Full story (spoilers)
Josie Wilder is a successful marketing executive in New York City, currently working on a deceptive campaign to rebrand upstate New York tap water as a luxury Czech import called 'VodaSpring.' Her life is upended when her sister Ellie and brother-in-law Aaron are killed in a car accident. Returning to New Hope, North Carolina, Josie expects her parents to take custody of Ellie’s children, Delilah and Ben. However, the reading of the will reveals a 'curveball': Ellie chose Josie as the legal guardian. This decision causes immediate tension with her father, Pete, who believes Josie is too focused on her city life to be a reliable parent. Josie decides to stay and try to honor her sister's wishes, but she immediately struggles with the transition, blowing fuses in the old family home with her modern appliances and failing at basic tasks like cooking breakfast and picking the kids up from school on time. During her stay, she reconnects with Cooper, her high school boyfriend who is now a local basketball coach and farmer. Their chemistry is still present, though complicated by a misunderstanding where Josie mistakenly believes Cooper is about to propose to her (he was actually just holding a ring for their friend Nate). Meanwhile, Josie’s professional life begins to crumble; her boyfriend Tony breaks up with her because he refuses to do long-distance, and her boss puts her on a leave of absence after she misses several meetings. A secondary plot involves Josie’s brother, Jeff, who secretly loves baking but works in tech to satisfy their father's expectations. The emotional climax occurs when Ben, struggling with grief and social embarrassment after Josie tries to 'help' him with a girl he likes, runs away to Cooper’s barn. Josie finds him and, in the process of comforting him, steps on a rusty nail. This injury leads to a vulnerable moment with her father, Pete, who finally admits he didn't want her to leave because he missed her, not because he doubted her. Josie realizes that her 'VodaSpring' marketing philosophy—that you can change the label but the water remains the same—applies to her: she is a New Hope girl at heart. She decides to stay permanently, opening a satellite office for her firm, encouraging Jeff to take over the family restaurant as a bakery, and finally accepting a date with Cooper.
