Why we’d put this one on

Jesse Metcalfe is Bradley, a country music star home to sell his childhood house before a glossy Hollywood wedding, and Autumn Reeser is Sarah, the best friend he is asking to plan it. The hook that makes this one sing: the two of them consider themselves married thanks to a mock ceremony they performed at age 13. There is a diner sandwich named after him and a pair of Italian cowboy loafers he wears to a ranch. It is a second-chance, childhood-promise romance with real warmth, and at 6.9 it is one of the sturdier crowd-pleasers in the batch.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with country music superstar Bradley Suttons and famous actress Catherine Mann announcing their engagement on a talk show. While Catherine is focused on a high-profile wedding in Italy, Bradley decides to return to his hometown of Milltown to sell his deceased parents' house. Upon arrival, he reunites with Sarah Standor, a veterinarian who runs a horse rescue ranch on the neighboring property. Sarah is currently facing a financial crisis, with the local banker, James Fargo, threatening foreclosure by June 1st if she cannot secure a grant. Bradley and Sarah reminisce about their childhood, specifically a day after Bradley's parents' funeral when they 'married' each other in a barn to ensure Bradley would always have a family. Bradley finds himself inspired by the quiet life in Milltown and begins writing music again for the first time in months. He decides to stay longer and asks Sarah to help him plan a 'normal' wedding in the old barn to surprise Catherine. Throughout the planning process, Sarah realizes she is still in love with Bradley, while Bradley discovers that Catherine knows very little about his personal preferences, such as his favorite flowers or his desire for a family. The conflict escalates when Catherine arrives in Milltown and realizes Sarah is a threat. Catherine secretly buys Sarah's ranch from the bank and offers Sarah a job in California to get her out of the way. When Bradley discovers Catherine's manipulative actions and her lack of genuine connection to his past, he breaks off the engagement. He realizes that Sarah is his true soulmate. The movie concludes with Bradley and Sarah renewing their childhood vows in a real ceremony in the barn, surrounded by the community that loves them.
