    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist is a bridesmaid in three different weddings in the same month, which is treated as a manageable logistical puzzle.
    • The plot hinges on the search for a specific bird, the Higby's banded plover, as a symbol of hope.
    • The 'Captain' title is used almost like a first name by multiple characters.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Claire Richards, a biology teacher in Willow Bay, juggling the chaotic responsibilities of being a bridesmaid in three different weddings over the course of one month. During a hectic day at the docks, she literally runs into Tom Hastings, a former Navy man who has just taken over the local charter boat service from the retiring Captain Mayweather. Their 'meet-cute' involves a spilled bucket of bait and a dropped field guide. Claire is preparing for her summer enrichment class on Blue Island, a place of deep personal significance where she hopes to find the rare Higby's banded plover, a bird not seen in fifty years. Conflict arises when Claire discovers that the town council is considering selling Blue Island to a developer, Panoramic Resorts, for a massive hotel project. The tension escalates when Claire's ex-boyfriend, Jason McClure, returns to town as the lead counsel for the resort company. Jason left Claire a year prior to pursue a high-powered law career, and his return creates a complicated dynamic, especially since he is a guest at the same weddings Claire is attending. Meanwhile, Tom and Claire begin to bond as he sails her students to the island. Tom, a self-described 'drifter' who plans to move on once his boat is paid off, is inspired by Claire's passion for conservation. As the weddings of her friends Amber, Bridget, and Christine progress, Claire balances floral arrangements and dress fittings with environmental activism. Jason attempts to win Claire back, offering her a future in Willow Bay if the resort deal goes through, while simultaneously trying to recruit Tom to provide boat excursions for the resort's guests. A misunderstanding occurs when Jason implies to Claire that Tom has already accepted the developer's contract, leading Claire to feel betrayed by the man she was beginning to trust. At a pivotal town meeting, Claire delivers a heartfelt speech about the island's intrinsic value to the community's identity. Tom arrives with a crowd of supporters, proving he chose Claire's cause over the developer's money. The council decides to postpone the sale indefinitely. In the final act, during the third wedding held on Blue Island, Claire officially rejects Jason's proposal to restart their relationship, realizing she no longer 'dreams that dream.' Tom reveals he has changed his plans and decided to stay in Willow Bay. The movie concludes with Tom and Claire sharing a kiss on the island, finally finding a 'great catch' in each other.
