    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • A previous assistant is casually mentioned to have been fired because she killed two people.
    • The 'Molten Snow' dessert literally explodes like a bomb due to chemical sabotage.
    • The villain is a wheelchair-bound mogul who uses his nurse as a hitwoman.
    • The protagonist is a chef who solves murders primarily through culinary intuition and 'fact-checking' TV guest folders.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with celebrity chef Primo Max demonstrating his signature 'Rose Flower' dessert on Billie Blessings' morning show, 'Wake Up West Coast.' The atmosphere turns grim when a dead woman, later identified as Jessica Gilmar, is found in the trunk of Primo's rental car in the studio parking lot. Detective Ian Jackson, who has a complicated, unresolved romantic history with Billie, arrives to investigate. While Primo claims innocence, retired detective Pete Bower appears, claiming Primo murdered his fiancée, Rose Brown, nine years prior in Los Angeles and escaped justice. Billie's curiosity is piqued, especially after her home is burglarized and a piece of nicotine gum is left behind as a calling card. As the investigation proceeds, Billie's restaurant, Blessings, is targeted. A mysterious 'prep chef' sabotages a dessert demonstration, causing a literal explosion in the kitchen. Billie discovers that the victim, Jessica, was Rose Brown's best friend and had recently found evidence of embezzlement at Primo’s original restaurant. Suspicion shifts between Primo, his disgruntled business partner Victor Anderson, and Victor’s son, Gibby. Billie learns that her own late father had once helped Primo investigate the threats against him, which deepens her personal connection to the case. Billie eventually realizes that Primo is being framed. Through clever deduction and a bit of 'fact-checking' at the studio, she identifies the 'prep chef' who sabotaged her kitchen as Victor Anderson’s private nurse. She realizes that Victor, not Primo, was the one stealing from the restaurant years ago and killed Rose to cover his tracks. In the climax, Billie confronts Victor at his estate, where he reveals he has been using his wheelchair-bound status as a cover for his ongoing crimes. Victor attempts to have Billie killed by his nurse/accomplice, but Ian and the police arrive just in time following a frantic message from Billie. The film concludes with Victor's arrest, the clearing of Primo's name, and a burgeoning reconciliation between Billie and Ian over a low-sugar apple crumble baked by Ian's daughter, Emma.
