Jo Mason runs the Daisy Hills Store, a community staple founded by her late mother. The store is struggling against online competition, but Jo is fiercely protective of its traditional atmosphere. Her younger sister, Sofi, is a talented writer who has secretly been accepted into a prestigious program at the University of Iowa but plans to stay home to help Jo and their father, Duke. Worried about the store's future, Duke secretly calls Blake Harris—Jo’s high school sweetheart who left for New York years ago—to consult on the business. Blake arrives unexpectedly at Sofi’s birthday party, causing immediate tension with Jo, who is still hurt by his past departure. Shortly after, Duke suffers a minor heart scare, which forces Jo to allow Blake to help with the store while Duke recovers. Blake initially proposes 'drastic' corporate changes like replacing the historic windows and moving the candy aisle to maximize impulse buys, which Jo views as 'taking advantage' of customers. They eventually agree to a compromise: they will conduct 'focus groups' with the townspeople. Meanwhile, Jo discovers Sofi’s acceptance letter and realizes her sister is sacrificing her future for the family. Jo secretly submits Sofi’s latest essay about the heart of Daisy Hills to the University of Iowa; the story goes viral, attracting 2.1 million views and bringing a massive influx of tourists to the store. Blake receives a partnership offer in New York but realizes his 'missing piece' isn't a career milestone but Jo. He decides to move back to Daisy Hills permanently. The film ends with the store thriving, Sofi heading off to her dream school, and Jo and Blake finally reconciling with a kiss.
