    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist delivers a breakup message to the love interest on behalf of a stranger she met on Zoom.
    • The central creative project is a book about a squirrel named Nathan who wants to go to the moon and play in the World Series.
    • The protagonist's 'calling' search involves a failed Broadway audition where she sings 'Give My Regards to Broadway' poorly.

    Full story (spoilers)
Piper Grant leaves her stable job at her father's patio furniture company in Omaha to move to New York City for a two-month sublet, hoping to find her 'calling' before her 30th birthday. Upon arrival, she has a hostile meet-cute with Austin Edwards over a taxi, only to discover he lives across the hall. Piper delivers a breakup message to Austin from the previous tenant, Amelia, which sets a tone of playful bickering between the 'grumpy' New Yorker and the 'sunshine' Midwesterner. Austin is under immense pressure from his mother, legendary journalist Patricia Edwards, to take a high-profile job at the New York Chronicle, though his true passion is writing children's stories about a squirrel named Nathan. Piper cycles through several temp jobs—a fashion show, a museum attendant, and an assistant to a Broadway diva—but fails to find a fit, often getting fired or realizing the lifestyle doesn't suit her. Meanwhile, Austin takes the journalism job but performs poorly on purpose. The two bond over a picnic in Central Park where Austin discovers Piper's talent for sketching and encourages her to illustrate his book pitch. Their professional collaboration turns romantic as they spend nights working by candlelight. However, conflict arises when both are fired on the same day: Austin for his lack of commitment to the paper, and Piper because her boss is going on tour. When Austin's book is finally accepted by a publisher, they reject Piper's illustrations in favor of an 'established' artist. Feeling like a failure as her two-month deadline expires, Piper prepares to return to Omaha. After a heart-to-heart with Patricia Edwards about being one's own champion, Piper 'busts down the door' of the publisher to demand they reconsider her work. The publisher is impressed by her tenacity and talent, hiring her as the permanent illustrator. Austin and Piper confess their love on a rooftop, Patricia finally accepts her son's creative path, and Piper decides to make New York her permanent home.
