    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The plot centers on a couple actively seeking a divorce, which is significantly darker than the standard Hallmark 'finding new love' trope.
    • Sol, the assistant coach, is a former defensive lineman who minored in dance and teaches the couple choreography.
    • The recurring, heavy-handed metaphor of eagles mating for life as a plot device for marital reconciliation.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with a flashback to young John and Abby, full of dreams about John's football career and Abby's aspirations to be a travel writer. In the present day, John is a successful high school football coach and Abby is a local writer, but their marriage has withered into a series of 'parallel lives.' After their son Kade's final high school game, they visit a lawyer to finalize their divorce. They plan to tell their children that afternoon, but their daughter Nicole arrives with her fiancé Matt and announces she is getting married. Fearing the news will shatter Nicole's joy, Abby and John agree to a 'truce' and decide to keep their divorce a secret until after the June wedding. As wedding preparations begin, the couple is forced into awkward situations, including counseling sessions with Pastor Mike where they must lie about the secrets to their long-lasting marriage. Abby's sister Beth encourages her to create a scrapbook for Nicole, which leads Abby to revisit photos and memories of their early romance. Meanwhile, tension rises as Abby becomes suspicious of John's close friendship with his colleague Charlene. The conflict reaches a boiling point when Nicole asks them to scout a bed-and-breakfast for her honeymoon; a booking error forces them to share a single room, leading to a rare moment of honest communication where they admit they both stopped trying. The emotional stakes increase when Abby’s father, 'Pops,' suffers a minor stroke. Pops, sensing the rift between the couple, makes John promise to love Abby 'all the way to the end,' revealing that he and his late wife also nearly divorced but chose to stay and 'repair the house.' Shortly before the wedding, Abby is offered her dream job as a syndicated travel columnist, but a misunderstanding at a planned meeting on the pier leads John to believe Abby has fully moved on. He hands her the divorce papers, intending to leave immediately after the ceremony. At the wedding, inspired by the vows and the 'eagle' metaphor of lifelong devotion, John and Abby have a final confrontation on the pier. John admits he was wrong to seek emotional support from Charlene and expresses his desire to support Abby's new career. They realize they never stopped loving each other and choose to tear up the divorce papers, ending the film with a dance that symbolizes their renewed commitment.
