    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The film features a rare Hallmark focus on a lead couple with Down syndrome.
    • The 'Six-Pack' and 'Three-Sheets' nicknames for family members based on their marriage longevity.
    • A scene where Emma works on a portfolio while lying under a table to help her back.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Kendall, a young woman with Down syndrome, finishing a painting for a client. Her mother, Emma, is her biggest supporter but is also deeply protective, managing Kendall's finances and schedule. Emma is surprised to discover that Kendall has been secretly dating Brad, a young man from her cooking class who also has Down syndrome. While Kendall is ecstatic about the relationship, Emma is immediately concerned about the emotional complexities and potential for heartbreak. Emma soon meets Nic, Brad’s brother and guardian, who is a property developer working on an 'intentional community' for adults with disabilities. Nic and Emma begin a tentative romance as Emma agrees to help design a model home for his project to build her professional portfolio. The central conflict escalates when Brad impulsively proposes to Kendall at Nic's grandparents' 60th anniversary party. Emma, shocked and fearful, insists on a long engagement of at least six months, citing the need for premarital counseling. This causes tension between Emma and Kendall, who feels her mother doesn't trust her capabilities. Meanwhile, Kendall attempts to reach out to her estranged father, Todd, via email, asking if he remembers her. When Todd fails to reply, Kendall becomes emotionally distraught. A misunderstanding with Brad leads to a fight, and Kendall, wanting to be alone, gets on the wrong bus and goes missing. A frantic search ensues, involving the police and Nic. Kendall eventually uses a stranger's phone to call 911 and is found safe at a bus terminal. The incident serves as a turning point for Emma. Her own mother, Bev, points out that while Emma has successfully protected Kendall from physical harm, she cannot—and should not—protect her from the experience of love and its inherent risks. Emma realizes she has been holding Kendall back due to her own trauma from her failed marriage. In an act of growth, Emma visits Todd in person, demanding he attend the wedding and treat his daughter with the respect she deserves. The film concludes with a beautiful wedding ceremony where Kendall and Brad exchange self-written vows. Emma and Nic solidify their relationship, and Kendall and Brad move into their own townhouse within Nic’s new community, achieving the independence Kendall always dreamed of.
