    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The guest house is a literal time capsule from 1985 that hasn't been updated in 35 years.
    • The protagonist counts her life in 'Day X of 14' increments as a coping mechanism.
    • A medical diagnosis involving a nickel allergy from pots and pans serves as a major plot point.
    • The 'Vanderton' college cheer is performed multiple times with high intensity.

    Full story (spoilers)
Dr. Zoey Garner is a 'locum tenens' physician who moves from hospital to hospital, a habit she developed after serving as a surgeon in the military to avoid the pain of loss and attachment. After finishing a stint in Newark, she reluctantly accepts a two-week assignment in the tiny town of Willow Brook to cover for Dr. Raymond Johnson, who is undergoing surgery. Upon arrival, she has a 'meet-cute' with Luke Barnes, a local software designer, when she accidentally hits him with a door at the clinic. Gabby, the clinic's assertive nurse, arranges for Zoey to stay in Luke’s mother’s old house, which has remained untouched since 1985, complete with a VCR and old wallpaper. While treating the locals, Zoey encounters Emma Hayes, a caterer suffering from mysterious, debilitating symptoms that other doctors have dismissed. Zoey’s military discipline and refusal to give up lead her to investigate Emma’s condition as a medical mystery. Meanwhile, Zoey and Luke grow closer, bonding over shared dinners and a mutual love of science and space. Luke is a devoted single father to Lilly, a college student who is secretly planning to drop her computer engineering major—a path Luke chose for her. Zoey encourages Lilly to be honest with her father, leading to a heartfelt reconciliation between the two. As Christmas approaches, Dr. Ray returns from surgery and reveals a deep respect for Zoey. He tells her about the 'Township Hero Awards,' where he is the surprise honoree. During the festivities, Zoey begins to feel the weight of her impending departure for her next assignment in Philadelphia. The emotional climax occurs when Dr. Ray reveals the true reason he requested Zoey: she was the doctor who cared for his son in the military before he passed away. He thanks her for ensuring his son didn't die alone, a revelation that helps Zoey finally process her survivor's guilt. After successfully diagnosing Emma with a systemic nickel allergy caused by her cookware, Zoey initially leaves for her next job. However, the pull of the community and her feelings for Luke prove too strong. On New Year's Eve, she returns to Willow Brook, accepting Dr. Ray’s offer to become a partner at the clinic. The film ends with Zoey and Luke watching a meteor shower together, with Zoey declaring it 'Day 1 of forever.'
