    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist's career hinges entirely on unmasking a small-town charity donor.
    • The love interest has an obsessive commitment to terrible coffee puns like 'Java the Hutt' and 'It’s Beginning to Look a Latte Like Christmas.'
    • The town operates a sophisticated, underground wish-fulfillment network that has remained a total secret for 40 years despite involving multiple local business owners.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Rebecca McBride writing a successful article about the Angel Tree in her hometown of Pine River, a tradition where a mysterious benefactor known as 'Angel' grants wishes. Her editor, Nina, offers her a permanent column if she can return to Pine River and unmask the Angel's true identity. Rebecca, who hasn't been back in 20 years since her own childhood wish to stay in town went ungranted, reluctantly agrees and travels there with her daughter, Cassie. Upon arrival, she stays with her Aunt Mimi and immediately encounters her childhood best friend, Matthew Anderson, at his family diner. Their 'meet-cute' involves Rebecca accidentally hitting Matthew in the eye with a coffee bean while trying to help behind the counter. Matthew is now the primary caretaker of his nephew, Owen, whose mother Zoe is deployed overseas. Rebecca begins her investigation by interviewing past wish recipients, but Matthew actively thwarts her efforts, encouraging the townspeople to keep the Angel's identity a secret to preserve the magic. However, Rebecca's initial article causes a surge of tourists and an unprecedented number of wishes on the tree, threatening to overwhelm the 'Angel.' Realizing the tradition is in trouble, Rebecca and Matthew organize the townspeople into 'Wish Central' at the diner to fulfill the requests collectively. They organize a community center visit, a pet adoption day, and a 'Wish Gift Day' in the town square. Amidst this, a romantic spark rekindles between Rebecca and Matthew, though they clash over her intent to publish the Angel's identity. Subplots involve Matthew's hesitation to expand his coffee business due to the responsibilities of raising Owen, and Owen's deep sadness over his mother's absence. The emotional climax occurs when Owen leaves a wish on the tree for his mother to come home for Christmas—a wish Matthew deems impossible. Rebecca uses her journalistic connections to contact a Colonel she once interviewed, successfully arranging a holiday leave for Zoe. On Christmas Eve, Zoe arrives as the 'Gala Wish' surprise. Later that night, Rebecca follows a hunch and discovers Aunt Mimi meeting with a group of local business owners (the 'Angel Squad'). Mimi reveals she started the tradition decades ago but it has since become a community effort. Mimi gives Rebecca her blessing to write the truth, but Rebecca chooses to protect the secret. She writes a moving column about how 'everyone is an Angel,' securing her promotion while keeping the mystery alive. The film concludes with Matthew revealing he kept Rebecca's childhood wish card from 20 years ago, and the two confess their feelings and decide to build a future together in Pine River.
