    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The revelation that a bubblegum pop song called 'Ooh Wee Ooh' was actually inspired by hospital chemotherapy machines.
    • The intense academic debate over the word 'jejune'.
    • A poetry slam where the winner is determined by 'snaps' and the prize is a set of binder clips.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Jack Chandeller, a retired musician who now runs a guitar repair shop, and Barrett Woodward, a meticulous poetry professor, meeting for dinner with their best friends, Naomi and Simon. The couple announces their engagement and asks Jack and Barrett to be the best man and maid of honor. The tension is immediate; they met ten years prior at one of Jack's concerts and have disliked each other ever since—Jack viewing Barrett as an elitist snob and Barrett viewing Jack as a shallow, repetitive pop star. When Naomi and Simon move the wedding up to just one month away, the two are forced into close proximity to plan the festivities. As they begin planning, their clashing styles emerge: Barrett uses meticulous notebooks and measurement apps, while Jack prefers spontaneity and 'vibes.' A turning point occurs at the engagement party when Jack is pressured into singing. He pulls Barrett on stage, and their impromptu duet is a viral success. This leads Naomi and Simon to request an original song for their wedding. Despite their reservations, Jack and Barrett begin spending time together, visiting a karaoke bar and a poetry slam. Jack discovers that Barrett's 'snobbery' is a defense mechanism from a harsh academic mentor who crushed her confidence, while Barrett learns that Jack's seemingly nonsensical hit song 'Ooh Wee Ooh' was actually inspired by the rhythmic sounds of hospital machines during his late wife's cancer treatment. The romance blossoms as they help each other: Jack encourages Barrett to share her poetry again, and Barrett helps Jack process his decade-long grief. However, conflict arises when Barrett finds an unfinished song in Jack's late wife's desk and completes the lyrics without his permission. Jack, feeling his private grief has been invaded, lashes out and cancels their performance. After a heart-to-heart with his son Teddy—who is also Barrett's student—Jack realizes he is afraid of moving on and that Barrett was actually trying to connect with him. At the wedding, Jack surprises Barrett by inviting her on stage to perform the completed song. They reconcile during their performance and join the newlyweds on the dance floor, finally acknowledging their feelings for one another through a series of 'vows' they deliver to each other during the reception.
