    • The heavy emphasis on the 'Hooah' vs 'Hooyah' distinction as a romantic plot point
    • A military colonel being defeated at pool by a 'yogurt and granola' academic
    • The concept of 'barrack-chic' interior design
    • The resolution of a financial crisis through historical landmark legislation

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Colonel Tom Brennan, a recently retired Army officer, struggling to adjust to civilian life in his 'barrack-chic' home. His old mentor, General Henry Cabot, invites him to Stone Creek Academy to revitalize the failing military program. Upon arrival, Tom meets Caroline Foster, the Dean of Academics and a Berkeley graduate who favors yoga and 'flipped classrooms' over traditional military structure. Their initial interactions are frosty, as Tom views her methods as 'psychobabble' and she views him as an outdated authoritarian. The stakes are raised when they learn the school board plans to sell the academy to Bremner College to be converted into dormitories. To save the institution, Tom and Caroline propose a dual-pronged approach: a high-profile centennial gala to attract donors and the revival of the school's traditional honors ceremony to restore pride and discipline. A subplot involves Tom's daughter, Kylie, who wants to drop out of college to travel Europe, causing friction with her father's need for order. Meanwhile, Tom takes a special interest in Mason Keller, a brilliant but rebellious cadet who needs a second chance. As Tom and Caroline spend time together—including a competitive game of pool where Caroline reveals her 'hustler' skills—they begin to influence one another. Tom learns to soften his approach, while Caroline begins to appreciate the value of discipline. Tom eventually reconciles with Kylie by supporting her plan to study abroad in Paris instead of just dropping out. In the climax, Caroline secures a Senator's help to declare the academy a historical landmark, preventing the sale. The honors ceremony is a massive success, resulting in a surge of new enrollments. The film concludes with Tom and Caroline acknowledging their mutual respect and love with a kiss during the gala celebrations.
