    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The central conflict is a legal plagiarism battle involving 'chord charts' and 'age authentication' of paper.

    • The protagonist finds the crucial legal evidence hidden literally behind a gold record on the wall, following a rhyming riddle left by her father.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with country singer Melody Jones performing her new single, 'Heart of Christmas,' at the Grand Ole Opry. The performance is a success, but the joy is short-lived when her mentor, the legendary Connie Black, accuses her of plagiarizing the song from Connie's own hit, 'Heart of Tennessee.' Melody's manager, Piper, explains that they have until Christmas Day to provide proof of authorship or settle the claim, which would mean admitting to theft. Melody insists she wrote the song years ago with her father and decides to return to her hometown of Madison, Indiana, to find the original manuscript. Upon arriving, she reunites with her sister Jillian, her niece Lucy, and her mother. She also has an awkward encounter at the grocery store with Chase Mattson, her former boyfriend and musical partner who stayed behind to run the family tavern when Melody left for Nashville. As Melody searches for the music, she becomes involved in the town's holiday festivities, including the revival of the Madison Christmas Concert, which had been cancelled due to budget cuts. She and Chase begin working together again, writing a new song titled 'Merry Christmas, I've Missed You.' The search for the sheet music proves difficult until Melody remembers her father's favorite saying about a gold record. She discovers the original 18-year-old manuscript hidden behind her father's gold record in his study. Just as she finds the proof, country icon Hunter Hamilton arrives in Madison and invites her to perform a duet on his televised Christmas special in Nashville—the same night as the Madison concert. Melody initially struggles with the choice but realizes her heart belongs in Madison. She travels to Nashville briefly to confront Connie with the proof, leading Connie to drop the lawsuit. Melody generously gives her spot on the Hunter Hamilton special to Connie to help revive her mentor's flagging career. Melody rushes back to Madison just in time to join Chase on stage. They perform their new duet, confess their mutual love, and Melody decides to make Madison her home base while continuing her career.
